NewCorkSeth Too lazy to look it up but whats the highest points a team has finished on outside of the play-off spots?

Wolves on 78 must have been up there?

If we can manage just 4 defeats from our final 18 games we will hit 80 points and I dont think any team has managed 80 and not finished top 6.

With 23 teams in the league, in 28 seasons the highest points tally for a 6th placed finish was indeed Wolves in 2014/15 on 78, with the lowest Leicester in 2012/13 who got 68.

Average is 73.

Cheers Country, not sure if wasnt clear but I meant the highest points for a 7th place finish.

Yeah noticed that afterwards  You were right with Wolves though!

So essentially - W7 L11 could be enough for a play-off place from here. W8 or more will guarantee it.

We are going at 1.86 pts per game at the moment - on course for 85 or 86 points. So we have some wiggle room for any tail off. 1.4pts per game will get us up to 77.

Auto spots very likely out of reach, but if we can get a another run of say 7 wins from 9 then possible to close gap. Have to be happy that a play-off spot looks probable.

I don't know if would prefer Newcastle or brighton to fall away. They certainly look untouchable but anything can happen.

Birmingham (a)
Ipswich (a)
Barnsley (h)
Brentford (h)
Huddersfield (a)
Brighton (a)

Now if we could win 8 of those....... 8)

No Fixed Abode
Ian Royal Not only that, but we've won more than 8 home league games for the first time in four years! And we've got plenty to play

H8 to say I told you so Ian but getting rid of McDermott was the right thing to do. 8)

Shame Ian isn't man enough to admit he was wrong.

Final 4 games of the season are:

Rotherham (H)
Forest (A)
Wigan (H)
Burton (A)

If we need maximum points in the last couple of the weeks of the season to guarantee a play of spot it could easily be done.

Pat Butchers Ring Thing is this team hasn't yet captured the imagination both from crowd numbers or atmosphere. If only both were as good as the team.

A new striker would probably complete the team and give us a real chance of doing something against the likes of Leeds, Huddersfield, Sheffield Wed in the playoffs. Push the boat and roll the dice RFC, Jaap deserves it.

That does feel to be true. Not sure why? My memory of BMcD's promotion was that it was only when we had that run of games in March (West Ham (away), Leeds, Brighton, Southampton - four games in a row against our rivals) that people started really thinking we could do it - but that had only followed a 10 game unbeaten run from Christmas.

I'd take 12th if it meant Brighton finished 3rd and oxf*rd up the play offs again.

Absolute scenes if we end this window with depth by way of

- Ilori
- Popa
- Striker (Juric?)
- Mutch
- Oxford

That's some sign of intent.

Takeover complete?
