paultheroyal Once Derby mess is sorted - and it will get sorted - will they be under same restrictions as us do you think? If they have not been seeking out targets passed few weeks they will surely have a bang average team next season.

Am no longer concerned about Derby as they won't be playing in the same league as us next season.

If the deal reached involved paying creditors over 3 years, then yes, they will be on a business plan to ensure they can meet those commitments.

Derby breached FFP so they should be under the same restrictions as us. They have been discussing this on Twitter and that Nixon numpty responded that they'll be looking for low cost signings, free's and loans for 3 years.

I see Cardiff have made their 7th signing. At this rate they’ll soon have as many summer signings as we have contracted players. I really hope we have a plan in place given that preseason starts next week.

You should know by now that we are notoriously slow in signing players close season, obviously nothing has changed

8th now with Allsopp signing - they are essentially going for it with a whole new team as in the last year of the parachutes. Also got a tidy sum for Kiefer Moore.

I think a lot of people have been impressed with both Cardiff's and Bristol City's business on the surface but a lot of it seems to be players from the lower leagues which always presents the risk of, are these players actually good enough for this level. I think that's more the case with Bristol City rather than Cardiff though. Kane Wilson did well at Forest Green, but that's two divisions below for instance.

Gambles (no Joe) have to be taken occasionally.

Doyle, Long, Hahnemann, Shorey, Sonks, Hunty, Kits etc etc etc were all signed from lower leagues weren’t they (Marcus, notwithstanding, who was Fulhams 4th choice keeper)

Lower leagues isn't the same as taking a gamble, beyond every signing ever being a gamble.

If you scout properly, know the individual and look at their track record a signing from L2 doesn’t have to be any more of a gamble than someone from the PL. Because you've done your homework.

Take Doyle for example. We had extensive knowledge of him from Dolan's family. And we could afford for him to not make a big impact as we had one of the best strikers in the league already, and a record signing for the same position.

Long wasn't much of a gamble, because he was basically a long term punt as a makeweight for Doyle to give him some company. There was no requirement for him to contribute at all. And he contributed relatively little for four or 5 seasons.

Very different scenarios to bringing in a L1 striker we may not have scouted a huge amount, given the decline in the club's transfer strategy, to make an important and immediate impact if Joao and Puscas do leave.

OFFS Ian…yes, our ‘scouting’ is lacking…who knew?

Loving the Long ‘makeweight’ …I used that word when we first signed them both….great recollections an’all that

Blackpool have appointed Michael Appleton after Liam Rosenior turned them down.

I reckon Blackpool will really struggle next season. A good bet for relegation.

Don't think there is any money there, no way their previous manager leaves to become an assistant manager and Liam Rosenior turns them down if there are funds. I get the impression Blackpool know it is going to be a massive struggle, they'll likely lose their better players too.

That is the "reported" reason that Rosenior turned them down - no money to enhance the squad or improve the facilities there, so felt it wasn't the right place to start his managerial career. Appleton has done OK in lower leagues since the Blackburn fiasco but struggled a bit with Lincoln last year - could be his last shot at a job in the top 2 divisions.
