Its preferable to chucking Gillingham back in League 1 a week before the season when they've spent the summer preparing and budgeting for League 2.

It's what they'd do if a club went tits up mid season and there's a precedent with Bury (and 1987/88 when they restructured the league)

Silver Fox How are Derby still going?

They have people still paying the wages. Kirchner paid the wages in May.

So Kirchner is out of pocket and with no deal
I presume his debt ranks alongside the rest of the non-footballing creditors

Apparently he forked out £1.6 million in May!

On the other hand, they've just budgeted for a season on a lower income and can take a free hit at a higher one, and just maybe stay up.

But yeah. 23 teams seems more likely.

They are seriously up to their necks in the brown stuff now, with just 6 weeks to go something needs to happen very fast or they are gone.

Don’t know the ins and outs but questions must be asked of the administrators. Seemed they backed the wrong horse in Kirchner

Andy Twigge (local BBC radio man in Derby) was interviewed last night and seemed to suggest it should all be fine. Said there are now between 6-8 parties interested in buying Derby and that one of those parties he spoke to said that with Kirchner, and his exclusivity agreement, out of the way, a deal could be done with one of the other interested parties in around 2 weeks.

They are no longer working on a preferred bid basis and have just asked all parties to submit a best and final offer so as to speed things up.

He did say though that a number of players contracts expire in 15 days time so its important to work towards getting it all resolved before that otherwise there is just another negative knock on effect for them to deal with

2 weeks seems optimistic especially if there are new bidders coming to the table now but I can see them being bought but for less than is needed from an EFL perspective, meaning they will likely have another deduction and need to work to a tight budget.

Interestingly* will have to see how Rosenior leaving affects them - he has his badges, Rooney doesn't as yet as I understand it, so will need a new coach with them in else he may need to step back. Of course, they won't even be able to offer a job to anyone until this is sorted, so looks likely that at best their pre-season probably can't even start until early July.

If you think we are in for a long season, then Derby are in for a very long one - if they even get to start it.

Now Kirchner gone - i expect Rooney to jump ship and will wait for a top Championship Team or lower Prem team when available.

Very possible. Rooney was very much pro-Kirchner so may not have the stomach for a rebuild under say Ashley.

Derby now have around 15 days until the end of June and some of their remaining contracted player’s contracts expire. Therefore any new deal has to happen fast if they hope to keep any of those players.

And we're supposed to trust that the EFL will do a thorough due diligence on the new owner...

No. I don't think they are required to are they ? They almost certainly don't have the resources or expertise either.
it should be down to the administrators to do that. The league only need to ensure they pass the fit and proper test (although whether that is of any use is a different question)

I'm half expecting the EFL to reinstate Derby in the championship as Coleen Rooney's husband's club are struggling to find a buyer now they're in League 1

They will review and think have to sign off on the business plan esp. if it includes paying off creditors over 3 years, as per the CK plan but it is first up to the administrators to confirm that the prospective owner had the cash.

Once Derby mess is sorted - and it will get sorted - will they be under same restrictions as us do you think? If they have not been seeking out targets passed few weeks they will surely have a bang average team next season.
