I believe Reading are only allowed to sign new players to a one year deal, so ageing injury risks are probably what they are looking at.

Looks like someone has stolen your thesaurus.

I would have had you down for being too old to be posting like a schoolboy that hasn’t discovered his path in life yet, but heyho! things happen.

I would fully expect the EFL to allow us to bring in 4 or 5 players (mostly loanees) by the end of next month. What we won’t be able to do is paying transfer fees for players.

What's the difference though between bringing in a player for £1m and giving them a £500k salary or bringing in a player for free and giving them a £1.5m salary? Actually, in the latter case we are creating a larger long term financial burden.

The EFL is only going to care about the total cost to the club of a signing. If we a massively over FFP then why would they allow anything other than absolutely essential signings?

What’s the difference between signing a player for £1 million and paying them £1.5 million salary for 3 years and bringing them in on a free and paying a 500k salary for 1 year ?

What I meant is that the EFL are probably mandating a total deal cost rather than saying outright we can't pay transfer fees.

FIFA prediction for this coming season is us finishing 23 rd,with the Welsh Boyos and Barnsley also having massive drop offs from last season. With Bournemouth finishing top on 101 points. On that basis Velcro would be gone by Xmas.I can remember us dropping out of the Prem of course, and on both occasions it being no great suprise;however have we ever even been relegated from the Chumpionship ?Cant be arsed to look.If that was to happen;it would be a massive bummer.I am always accused of being a glass half empty kind of guy on this forum;but provided we don’t lose anyone else from the squad and get a couple of decent loanees come in,even I can’t see us finishing 23 rd.Are we really worse than Posh,Luton and Coventry ? I don’t think so.

Baffled that you can’t remember the previous relegations then. We were relegated under Branfoot back to the lower divisions in 1988 having just won the Simod Cup. We were also relegated from the Championship in the season Terry the Taxi was manager when Burns took over in 1998.

I blanked them both out.But if we are going to be pedantic;we have never been relegated from the Chumpionship.

Technically it was the 'First Division' we were relegated from in 98. Never been relegated from 'The Championship'.

Have we ever been relegated from the Championship? What sort of question is that ffs!?

Yes of course we have.

The season before the Madejski opened and at least once before that... 80s or late 70s I think

Anyone who thinks the Championship isn't the same thing as Division 1 or Division 2 (pre PL) is doolally.

Ok. Let’s keep it simple and say we have been relegated twice from the second tier in 88 and 98.

Simple but wrong.

Three times, the other being 1931.

So is the Premier League just the same as the old first division? Hence, our 106 record is valid for all professional leagues in England, rather than just the arbitrary decision to say it's only valid for 3 of them?

It's basically the same, yes. First Division and PL titles are all counted as one and the same.

It's technically slightly different as it's no longer over seen by the FL. But it's basically just a technicality.

106 starts getting complicated that when you factor in points per game a couple of PL teams have done better without breaking it.

I think more pertinent is the fact that Lincoln also managed 106 points if their results had been 3 points for a win.
