Royals and Racers A signing !!! 32 year old England International striker Natasha Dowie who played for AC Milan last season(14 goals in 24 matches)

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/57890340

Reading striker Natasha Dowie said she had "a need to come back" to the Women's Super League after playing abroad since 2016.

Dowie, who has played in six different countries during a 17-year career, left AC Milan this summer.

The 33-year-old left Doncaster Rovers Belles in 2016 to join Boston Breakers and had stints in Sweden, Norway and Australia before moving to Italy.

"I want to see how much the WSL has developed," she said.

"The way each club has invested in the women's game - I remember when I was playing in the WSL before, at top clubs like Everton and Liverpool, it had only really just started turning professional.

"We trained at Widnes at the rugby ground and it was 4G pitches. Now you see the likes of Chelsea reaching the Champions League final and all the top players want to play in England.

"It's the league to be at. There are many great leagues in the world with top players in, but it's England the players are getting drawn to.

"I want to see how I stand now. I have learnt a lot. I've changed as a person and a player. I'm excited by the opportunity for games to be on TV and it's down to us to showcase the women's game."

Dowie enjoyed her time in Milan, netting 14 goals in 24 appearances, but Covid-19 restrictions and a language barrier meant it was a "challenging 11 months".

Reading manager Kelly Chambers tried to sign Dowie last season but the striker had "different aspirations".

Now she is looking forward to playing in front of friends and family again, while the training facilities at Reading were another big attraction.

"When I spoke to [Chambers] again this year, I felt how much she wanted me and how much she invested to get me to Reading.

"It made me feel like it was the right club to go to. The new training facilities are out of this world, too.

"Hopefully I can score more goals so we can push on to try and challenge the top teams a bit more."

The FA have today announced that the draw for the 2021/22 group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup is to be broadcast live on talkSPORT 2 this Friday (July 30).

The competition, which begins in October, will be divided into two sections – Northern and Southern – with two groups in the North and three in the South. As has been the case in previous campaigns, teams from both the Barclays FA Women's Super League and the FA Women's Championship will take part.

The draw will be broadcast live at 1.15pm.

This season's format is explained by the FA below...

The notable change to this season's draw is that the clubs who have qualified for the UEFA Women’s Champions League (Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal) will enter at the quarter-final stage, dependant on Champions League progress.

Friday’s draw will therefore feature 21 clubs, with nine going into the two groups in the Northern section, and 12 going into three groups in the Southern.

In the Northern section, the first five numbers out of the bag will be placed in Group A. The remaining and last four numbers out of the bag will be placed in Group B.

In the Southern section, the first four numbers out of the bag will be placed in Group C. The next four numbers drawn out of the bag will be placed in Group D. The remaining and final four numbers drawn out of the bag will be placed in Group E.

The first place team in each group will qualify for the quarter-finals, joining those clubs competing in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. If Arsenal and/or Manchester City enter the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup, the best runner-up/two best runners-up will progress with the five group winners.

The group stages will run from 13-14 October through to 15-16 December, with the quarter-finals scheduled for 19-20 January, the semi-finals 2-3 February, and the Final on the weekend of 5-6 March.

BALL NUMBERS – NORTHERN SECTION

1. Durham
2. Liverpool
3. Blackburn Rovers
4. Sheffield United
5. Manchester United

Shouldn’t the women have their own forum now, seems a bit disrespectful to have their bits and pieces (fnarr, fnarr!) all sloshing about in just 1 thread making it tricky as the thread grows if you want to check/find out something.

I believe she played for Canada v GB at the Olympics yesterday.

I watched that game after hearing about the signing so was able to keep an eye out. First time Rose got the ball she immediately looked to go forward, which is what I always want to see from a player. However, that was the only positive contribution and she hardly got involved again at all before being substituted at half-time. Played attacking midfielder, first on the right and then on the left.

Has a bronze medal from the 2016 Olympics as a 17-year-old, and is into the semi-finals again this time round. It actually makes her Reading's second Canadian Olympian, following Bob Lenarduzzi who played in 1984.

Today won the penalty that beat USWNT and took Canada to the Olympics Final.

Looks to be a very good signing. Listed as a midfielder but seemed to play an attacking role for Canada today and scored 19 goals in 51 appearances when playing for Florida.

Looking forward to the game tonight, lets hope the girls do themselves justice.

It's good Kelly recognised in the interview earlier that last season wasn't good enough, we'll never challenge the top 4 now but still think we can be best of the rest

United probably should of had a red, they've been the better side in a tight first half but we are not out of it.
