Season Defining Moments

by notloyalenuffroyal » 30 Mar 2018 23:28

It remains to be seen, but that penalty save feels like a season defining moment....

What other moments do you think define other seasons? Not necessarily the obvious (e.g. Cureton's winner, Ledge's goal)

I was thinking the infamous Convey goal against Milwall in '05?

Did the turn around against Boro first game of the season in '06 define that season?

You will all be much better at this than me - thought it might bring up a good few memories!

Manset's goal to make it 3-2 vs Bristol City in 2011. I seem to remember that being the game where we really came together as a team, and although it was relatively early in the season, gave us the confidence to win games and eventually the title after a very poor start.

Sunderland winning 4-1 at Derby tonight still shows that it ain't over to till the fat lady sings. We've a difficult run in to navigate.

Losing 2-0 against Fulham in April 2008 in a relegation 6-pointer was arguably what led to our relegation that year.

I just looked back at that season just now, Manchester United only failed to win two home games that season, a 2-1 loss to Man City and a 0-0 draw with us :D

If Barnsley had held on for the win and the fakes converted their pen we would now be just one point ahead of Barnsley. Today may well be pivotal.

Berg's loose pass at the end of Fulham was quite defining for this season too.

Lovell's penalty miss.

Shorey dropping his shoulder and going on a run upfield against M'bro in that first PL game.

Throwing away that two goal lead against Cardiff. We were on fire going into that game, and above Fulham iirc. All went to shit after that.

That draw vs a Yeovil team who went down and had 9 (?) Men. Caused brighton  to get into the playoffs instead

Think they had two sent off and another went off through injury so played against 8 men for the last 10 minutes or so. Couldn't believe we didn't score.

On paper it’s sounds ridiculous we didn’t score. However when you end up playing a team with 7 defenders on their own six yard box, the reality isn’t quite as simple as the principle. It was a freak of a game.

First, I must say that It seems odd that i’m joining in to a rational discussion that involves double d.
Secondly, it was not 3 sendings off, it was 2 and an injury. Had Yeovil lost one more player either by an injury or by a sending off, then the Referee would have to had abandoned the game as League rules state that a team must field no less than 8 players, and should a team field less than 8 players then the game must be abandoned.

Cureton's equaliser against Brentford. Otherwise, it would have been the playoffs for us and we all know about our record in those.
