I am at the belief that all our midfield can play at this level but need someone out there directing them - when to push, when to hold, position them at set plays offensive and defensive. No one in the middle has a voice and heads drop so quick when its not going smooth. TBH i am not sure there is a voice out on the field that is respected by everyone.
Meyler hasn't really had a chance to settle and hasn't had the desire to force himself back into the team.

Wait, hang on.

Am I reading this right?

Are seriously starting up a whole thread to have a go at one of our fringe players daring to play a computer game in his spare time? And (surprise surprise) a football one?

Player not involved spends afternoon indulging hobby.

Really, just how is this any sort of interest. What's he expected to do? Wear sack cloth and ashes and be blubbing uncontrollably as Yiadom gives away a penalty?

He could spend his Saturday’s helping out in a soup kitchen, I’d still think he’s a pcunt.

Anyone who says they give it their all - when they quite evidently don’t, is a fcuking prick.

Kulshaw72RFC I said this a few weeks ago, as did OMA, yet we were both ridiculed.....

Why is he spending time playing video games when he should be clearly trying to improve to get into the first team? Unbelievable!!!! He is stealing a wage when we have more younger and hunger players who want to play.

I rather he fiddled around with video games, than spending time in a casino, in the bookies or propping up the bar and getting drunk and/or abusive and ending being arrested. Why expect him to be training at all times of the day and night, surely he is allowed a bit of free time to do what he wants to do?

+1, tbf if I was a pro footballer, I would be spending a lot of my free time playing PS4 and/or watching Netflix constantly and if I was good at FIFA, or similar, I would be shouting about it as well.

You can't train all the time, you can put in extra work in the gym etc, but you run the risk of getting an injury and then people would complain about that.

Sometimes you just can't win.

Called this before he'd even played a game. Do the club do due diligence on signings [Rhetorical]? Just look at the guys twitter.

Hasn't got the character for a fight, no way he'll be knuckling down and training hard to win his place back.

There's obviously no way of truly knowing the answer to this but, if he were to be offered the ability to never play a game for a football club again but to still pick up a wage while developing his online/eSports presence, could you say, with confidence, that he'd not want to do so?

I'm not really fussed about what players do in their spare time as long as it doesn't effect their performance or ability to train.

David James famously put a run of bad form down to his addiction to gaming at the time, so it's not necessarily just something to pass off as an irrelevance if he's spending too much time on it.

I thought Hull (!) letting him walk away for nothing was a red flag. They obviously knew more about him that we did.

He was considering retiring after Hull let him go, now he's got a couple of years free salary while he sits at home playing games.

Pretty sure he will still be training and will play if needed, so hardly free, is it.

So, if your boss said to you "Don't bother coming in to work again, but we will pay you your wages, so you won't need to work again and can enjoy your hobby full time", you would refuse the offer?

That’s not how it works. Meyler is still training presumably.

As McD said "never to play a game of football again", he wouldn't need to train, would he?

Meh, would say any professional sport is nice work if you can get it, whether you're playing or not.

Just a shame you have to be born with a bit of natural talent to do it, otherwise I am sure more of us would do it...
