2 world wars, 1 world cup Is Darren Caskey still with us?
The same Darren Caskey whose goals proved pivital in ensuring we avoided relegation to Division 3/League 2? - He earn't every pie voucher we ever paid him in that one season alone.

The free kick v Bournemouth was worth it all as well.

Good old fat jesus,my favourite too good for his team mates but not good enough for a better team player.

Meyler retains his place in the Ireland squad. Quite bizarre.

Anybody else see him that time in the stands at Doncaster (a) on a Tuesday night circa 2009? A Reading legend, for me.

Still a provisional squad, gives the opportunity for MON and Keane to have a look. It's not like being called up for England, we're not overflowing with alternatives.

It may well be that Clement has taken a dislike to him rather than he's not training well, MON has made him captain before, he obviously rates him in general.

Which makes it all the more odd as we have been missing a tackler in midfield most of the season.

yeah, well he may be playing horribly, in which case he won't get to play, and may even be let go when the provisional squad is firmed up.

Interesting though that MON has decided he needs to take a look for himself, rather than just assuming if he can't get into the matchday squad at Reading, it's because he's crap.

But tbh I'm not sure what midfield player he's displacing in the Ireland squad. Seeing as how Liam Kelly has rejected us, and awaits his imminent England call-up....

Meyler wouldn't be in the Ireland squad if McCarthy was fit.

Could easily be that his weaknesses are exposed here by our midfield options, whilst at Ireland they're covered by the rest of the squad.

And maybe he puts a better shift in for his country.

Contract cancelled by mutual consent. I guess we'll never know whether this was a months wages or 11.9, but he's gone.

At the time, the signing made a lot of sense. He doesn't seem to be a 'bad apple' but then again, who knows what happened; some of the best leaders are also the ones who take being out the team the worst.

So... lets go out there and buy a midfielder!

not wholly surprised. Horrible waste of money, and yeah he seemed a good signing to me at the time

Assuming we've paid up about 6-9 months and makes it easier for him to find somewhere else, rather than rotting in the U23

You would think that if we are happy for him to just go, that we have someone lined up there or we trust the younger players to fill in if needed.

we could probably have 20 odd injuries and Gomes still wouldn't pick him. Don't think it makes any difference to incomings, just better to get him out of the club

Club have clearly done a good deal for him and us. Keeping him was clearly more expensive than losing him and another player off the books.

Rather someone signed him but this is better than nothing.

Garth, Chris and Pops left now 8)

Don't think it has anything to do with what we have lined up. He wasn't anywhere near the squad anyway. Assuming we have saved money on him though, if that's what you meant.

I imagine we paid him 6 months or something, lots of money off the books.
