Snowflake Royal My Nan has different experience and circumstances, do you think we should give her a go? She's dead by the way.

No one's dismissing him on a hunch. They're saying he's a thoroughly underwhelming appointment likely to fail because:
- He has no experience of the English League and particularly the Championship, one of the most competitive in Europe.
- He's managed a long string of unimpressive clubs
- He's never lasted anywhere for long
- He's got zero knowledge of Reading FC and probably couldn't have pointed to us on a map a month ago.
- Our recent track record of appointing managers leaves rather a lot to be desired
- Our problems are rather urgent, so he has no time to get up to speed on us or the division
- There's more than a hint of this all being led by one of football's dodgier characters who's already palmed a load of shit off on us last time Howe was CEO.

There is literally nothing to recommend him as a good appointment other than that he hasn't actually failed with us yet. At another time, maybe he'd be worth a punt. But this is precisely the wrong at appointment at this time IMO.

So with everything against him, if he comes in and does well, you'll be thrilled, and you'll be first in line to heap on all the praise then?

No, I actively want us to fail under him just so I can be right.

I'll take that as a big 'Yes' then.

He looks and sounds a lot better than Ian Royal.

I think the club made the right choice.

I will certainly grant you that he's a better appointment than someone with zero playing, coaching or managing experience who doesn't want the job.

I don't know what to think.

This is the first time we have a manager with not only no record but a poor one. Many moves, some awful win ratios, no experience in UK let alone champ. Ok so he also had a bit of success too and overall win ratio isn't awful but overall I doubt he's being brought in because of his CV.

I can only hope there must be something about him that the owners see. Perhaps his personality, enthusiasm, something that will rub onto the players somehow.

My fear though, given that the owners seem to have just ploughed through a list of Portuguese managers is that I can honestly see them thinking "oh look Ronaldo is a good football player and he's Portuguese and so Portuguese people must be good at football management." Or the agent is spouting rubbish.

We'll get behind him anyway.

Snowflake Royal
Norfolk Royal Baffling appointment, fear of the unknown. As ever results will be the determinant of the new manager's time here.

I'll just throw Daniel Farke's name out there. He was Borussia Dortmund's second team manager when he came to Norwich. He could actually have been sacked shortly into his tenure as well but they stuck with him. See where they are now.

No doubt some would argue that Farke's qualification is better than Gomes, even though Gomes is managing a first team.

The point being that appointing a complete unknown with his own ideas and style of play, can work well. It is not a given that this will be a disaster. It may be, it may not.

It's a daft argument Norrers. A couple of examples of inexperienced foreign managers doing well under different circumstances does nothing to invalidate anyone's concern about this guy.

Of course it's not impossible he'll be great. It'd just be nice if the odds were stacked more towards it rather than it being based on fairy dust and moonshine

Which is essentially what I said tbf with a slightly more optimistic tone.

Amazing how Ian continues to pick arguments with everyone who agrees with him as well as those who don’t!

It’s a special talent.
