Decision on this from Rio Ave/Gomes not expected until after their cup game with Sporting Lisbon on Wednesday evening. Might well be just a matter of agreeing comp. with the Ave chairman.

Worryingly the Portuguese media rate it as a risky move if it happens and says that despite Ave managing to get to the lofty heights of 6th in the Portuguese league he has not addressed the club's defensive frailties.

This could be a long season.

If it does happen it'll be interesting to hear from Reading just why they think Mr Gomes is the right fit (after Castro) instead of someone like Jokanovic, Pardew, Parkinson, Carvahal or whoever you'd choose.

Is it worth thinking about giving Paul Hurst a second chance? Afterall he was being mentioned in the same breath as the Cowleys as an up and coming manager only last season and got his chance at Ipswich after a great job at Shrewsbury. Ipswich have more problems behind the scenes so I don't think their plight is completely down to what Hurst was trying to do.

leon Ainsworth surely?

This.

He is sitting there waiting for them to ask him too. He along with Parkinson are sadly just back up options I feel. The club has been railroaded by Joorabchian into getting a Portuguese coach. There is clearly something in it for him and Reading being Reading will just bend over and let him do what he wants.

Has it? Is there anything at all to back this up other than piss poor websites that simply print Joorabchian press releases verbatim?

Yes the clear and sudden pursuit of Portuguese managers................. Pretty obvious. He rocks up and all of a sudden we are going down a radically different path.

I won't be convinced on a new manager until I hear
Focher .
confirm he has shown a middle aged Portuguese national a house in an area of Reading...

At one time he had ownership of a swathe of Portuguese based players, 3rd party ownership was legal then. Pretty sure he still represents a lot of players and 'apparently' managers in the region.

If any of these posts were anything other than tongue in cheek then I feel desperately sorry for them. and as for J Low, it must be a very quiet day at GR.
