Option to play 3 at the back. Both Richards and Yiadom would make good wingbacks.

Richards isn't and never will be a championship level player.

He’s fine going forward but is very naive defensively.

Whenever a situation that is bad; comes to the surface and the symptoms more obvious and decisions are made to put things right; it can look and feel painful.

Like the diagnosis of an illness and then taking the medicine.

The moment Howe left in 2017, the rot started. Gourlay was a disaster for our Club.

Our owners, having seen this, made sweeping changes last January and things have improved ever since, particularly since the reappointment of Howe.

There may be some more challenging situations, we may lose Jose and we may sell big names; but we are moving forward again; and our juniors coming through are an excellent resource both on the field and financially too.

All the bad stuff; is related to Gourlay’s time and Tevreden (post Howe).

The football played and most importantly, the attitude displayed by the players and Jose and his team
and Howe and the owners have been hugely improved on the days of Clement and (latter days) Stam.

Teams need (relative) youth, mixed with a sprinkling and nothing more of experienced pros, pace, strength, togetherness and a hunger to reach the top flight, to be successful in the Championship.

The upheaval and discomfort that we’re experiencing will serve us well as we move towards rebuilding a Club and a squad and a team that’s more representative of what we want and need.

I know I've not been on here for a while but what happened to the good old fashioned "oxf*rd off newbie" greeting that was traditionally given

Whatever his name is, he's not going to have the same effect on the Majeski as Simon Osbourne had for us in the 90s.

Super Si only played one season for us iirc. Left way before we moved to the Mad Stad.

And today's prize for missing the point goes to …...

Yep, I'm deserving of a whoosh there. Cheers Franny...

Just a little something for the record;
KSV Roeselare (?) have just appointed a new Icelandic manager.

Maybe the new owner is having a clear out........

I don't especially rate him, but think he can do a job as a squad player for the left side this season. Cover until Obita is back fit imo.

After a couple of good full seasons in L1 I reckon he could potentially step up successfully.

Give the guy a break. Going to be a tough season for all the academy players.

Ok, in that case, yes he's brilliant, best left back in the league.

Looking at FFP again, it sounds like there is substance behind the Cabral and Joao rumours.

I expect a player coming from Serie A to be on healthy wages. There is supposedly a sizeable fee with Joao.

So, were we overplaying how dire our situation was to get good deals? Are we about to see an experienced player be sold? Have we just agreed to risk it to avoid relegation? Have we found a creative accounting solution?

Either way, it doesn't seem to add up.

The fee for João is certainly interesting. The others are all loans or free so shouldn’t affect us too heavily if we are on the verge of loaning our Gunter (also rumour of Popa to Roselare)

Scan of twitter suggests something along the lines of £5m spread over a number of seasons plus some Hector sell on fee - assuming the Weds are about to sign him. Hence no cost this season.

One thing we certainly haven’t done is brought in any substantial transfer fee. Maybe we are gambling on doing so in January?

If we are overplaying our FFP situation then presumably we have faked the last 3 years accounts and hoodwinked the EFL. Into imposing a transfer embargo.
Smart.
