Elm Park Kid I'm interested - do people think we will still sing '106' if Liverpool beat that points total? I understand that technically it's a football league - 46 games a season record, but I would find it a bit embarrassing if we continued with the song.

Leeds fans sing "We are the Champions, Champions of Europe". Now THAT is embarrassing. One final....45 years ago.....and lost the game 0-2.
Just hilarious.

Careful, you'll have someone on here tell you that they were cheated out of that one and that 'technically' they won the game

Maneki Neko 106 is the championship record

liverpool getting more would be hugely and insanely impressive, but not anything to do with our record

It is the professional football league structure record, that includes L1, L2, Champ and PL.

It will still be a FL record if Liverpool do it
It will still be a Champ record.

But it won't be THE record.

No one talks about Death's record anymore do they. Because Van der Saar broke it. In the PL

Obviously, because that record is unaffected by the difference between a 46 and 38 game season

Given Liverpool are going to break the record playing fewer games, so is our record.

I wonder if Liverpool will slow down when the league is won and they still have big CL knock out fixtures.

Even if they break it, we'll still have the EFL record. And in many ways it means more in the Championship. Liverpool barely have to get out of 2nd gear for 2/3rds of PL matches. Our record required ultimate consistency and playing at a level near our best every week.

Nothing particular against Liverpool ( ok they have ridiculous two- club Southern fans like Man U), but for them to beat our record in only 38 premiership games would be:

A. Amazing
B. Very annoying and would piss on our achievement.

So I am hoping they lose every game they play ( plus see the Betting thread, betting against them has cost me a fortune)

Holy shit !
The last thing we need is Liverpool to get knocked out of the CL. They’d actually try in all the PL games

Let's hope so, otherwise they'll only have the domestic double to concentrate on

I’ve always thought that tracking teams in other English leagues is a bit odd. We’ve never claimed to have the world record so tracking Liverpool’s progress makes about as much sense as tracking PSG in 2016. Obviously we play in a completely different and far lesser competition to Liverpool (although by the same token we didn’t spend hundreds of millions putting our squad together). 106 is still going to be the benchmark for this division no matter what happens.

We play in a far more historic and venerable competition than Liverpool, generally recognised as one of the top leagues in Europe, but obviously less prestigious or media dominated than the PL.

Thanks Watford!

Liverpool's maximum is now down to 109.

Can't seeing them getting 106 as now as the unbeaten record has gone they will coast to the title dropping a few more points.

Will help if they stay in Europe too.

I think they are referring just to top flight football although mentioning Barry Town in the Welsh Premiership is a bit daft.

I think the data was gathered by UEFA so probably top flight football in Europe. Can sort of understand Barry's record being included as you do qualify for European football from the Welsh league.
