Had to explain to Lady Hendo (who is from SA) what teletext/ceefax was. Took me quite a while :lol:

In the latter years:

302 = Football
324 = League Tables
390 = local sport (us!)

302-312 were the general footballing headlines and stories.

Good old Teletext. I used to get in from school and then work, first thing I'd do is grab some biscuits and sit down and check the football news and rumour headlines hoping for something for RFC.

Interesting* fact - I used to work for them (Teletext - ie C4 and ITV) many years ago

I trained people how to draw the graphics for the ads

It was actually pretty good before the web destroyed it

Did anyone else use to keep the scores page up on auto refresh - it was of course in the pre SSN days

You could put goal update on at the bottom of the TV, so back in Champions League on ITV days, I'd insist on having that on for our midweek games.

The one that comes to mind is in March '01, 87th minute equaliser against Wycombe.

There were CL games that day - Real Madrid Leeds. Heady times.

If I remember correctly if one of the scores changed it would take a while for your page to come back round leaving you wondering.

Being an exiled Royal from the age of 9 in 1989, I spent the whole of the 90's watching Ceefax and page refreshes as I didn't get to many games (neither of my parents are Reading fans so not much interest for them in going to games). My friends still mock me to this day about how I spent my Saturday afternoons. Just waiting for the page to tell me Reading had scored. If they had, I'd go batshit crazy!

It was a simpler time. A happier time.

Still remember the page number for latest scores on Ceefax - page 316

Used to get my transfer news from Ceefax/Teletext as well. Remember coming home from school everyday and going to the Gossip column to see if there was a Reading transfer rumour. If there wasn't, that was it until the next day.

These kids don't know they're born with instant Twitter transfer news!
