CONFIMRED - Lucas Boye

by StellaPlease » 31 Jul 2019 17:37

Torino striker/winger set to sign. Was in loan at AEK Athens last season and is nicknamed the bull. They want him back and it was only yesterday that Middlesbrough were linked with him.

Random one.

Spent time at Celts Vigo in Spain and in 2016 played over 49 games for Torino.

He looks ok on the YouTube. Similar to Meite in that not huge skill but bustling and strong

Bit weird if he came here if Boro want him and Torino have apparently a 5m price tag on him

Argentinian. Played in Italy, Spain and Greece. Very different footballing cultures. Does he speak English? How will he settle? He may have talent for all I know. But is it realistic to expect him to come in and hit the ground running? Is one for the future what we need right now?

As I said, I know nothing about him other than his Wikipedia page which shows questionable goalscoring statistics. But I feel these are reasonable concerns.

I think he's played more on the wing. But yeah, seems a bit BT sort of signing.

Defo a loan as Torino want 7.5m euro for him.

Must have some ability to play 41 times in one season for a team that came 8th in the Italian top flight.

Obvs never heard of him, but Serie A, La Liga and Champions League experience suggests he's a decent player. Good amount of experience for a 23 year old. Fit as well.

TBF he said a medical has taken place but he also leaked the rumour, so 2+2.

Goes as far as to say expect an announcement shortly

Be surprised if he gets this one wrong tbh, obv has a good source

Interesting signing if it happens. Would prefer him to some lightweight up and coming prem academy lad

Bit of strength, skill and vision in him. Looks a battler too.

Only YouTube clips but looks what we need.

Is a winger who can play up front what we need? More experienced option than Loader, Barrett and Olise who can play there. But genuine out and out striker is surely more important? Maybe the club are trying their best to bring one of them in too and we should just be happy with extra options.

Encouraging article from last season.

Also encouraging stats from everyone's favourite go-to footballing encyclopedia:

https://fmdataba.com/19/p/24048/lucas-boye/

Concern with signings like this is always managing the person as much as the player. How will he settle in with the squad? Will there be a language or cultural barrier? Can he do it on a cold, wet Tuesday night in Stoke?

Manage this well and he looks talented. He has already moved from Argentina to Italy and done time in Spain and Greece, so should hopefully be adaptable.
