Stranded One interesting* stat. Yesterday marked our 11th win this season. The first time we have managed to hit that mark since the play off season under Stam

Hopefully this season can be the second in 8 (EIGHT) seasons where we win more than 8 home games.
Currently it stands at:
6, 8, 5, 16, 8, 8, 8, 4, 14

With 7 home games to play and Bowen's record we should hopefully be looking at least 9, maybe 10 or 11.

No wonder I feel like travelling to away games again.

Snowball Not sure how a direct counting of wins, draws, losses, goals for and against is “massaging stats”

Incidentally, my 46-game extrapolation just happens to be 100% supported by the table since October 18th (Bowen’s first game was October 19)

Go to WhoScored and select a start date for the table of 19-October

We are 7th in that table

Incidentally our game at Leeds is our 23rd league game under Bowen, half a season, effectively, a very solid measure

If we lose at Leeds it means “=“ a 66 point full season, a draw “=“ a 68 point season, and a win (not that likely, but...) would then equate to 72 points

Seems to me more than likely we will challenge for the top six next year

Of course we need to keep Gabriel or get a better keeper, need a fit Miazga to sign or get another Morrison. I’d like to keep Pele, and we have to get (or create from what we have) a genuinely potent strike force.

My hope is we get a big rough tough CF who forms a partnership with Puscas

Add to that the confidence of actually seeing ourselfs higher up the table creating a better atmosphere (team and fans) you could probably add a couple more points to that.

Totally agree. As long as we keep the bulk of this squad, things look really good.

Reading HOME under Bowen

1 11 8 1 2 24 10 +14 25 Brentford
2 11 7 3 1 16 06 +10 24 Derby
3 11 7 2 2 19 10 +09 23 Leeds
4 11 6 4 1 16 09 +07 22 Blackburn
5 11 7 0 4 17 16 +01 21 Fulham
6 11 6 2 3 16 10 +06 20 Stoke
7 11 5 4 2 18 13 +05 19 Millwall
8 11 4 6 1 15 11 +04 18 Cardiff
9 11 4 5 2 21 14 +07 17 West Bromwich Albion

10 11 5 2 4 15 10 +05 17 Reading

Not so good! (But actually better than I thought)

I think we have to find a new home style, more aggressive and high-tempo

As long as Bowen doesn't catch the same Shit Second Championship Seasonitis that Adkins, Stam, Clement and Gomes all caught, lesser extent Clarke too.

I don't think he will, the signs are certainly more promising than Clement, Clarke and Gomes... but if Adkins and Stam can fall off that badly...

I don’t agree with you that Adkins had a bad second season to be honest

We had a few decent players but look at the sort of players we were trying to integrate into the squad. Hector, Cooper, Kuhl, Taylor, Edwards, even Tshibola got on the edges of the first team that season. Then we had other players like Akpan, Blackman, Gunter at his worst, Cox etc who many perceived to be poor players

IIRC we were around 14th when he was sacked, which, for a squad of the players we had then, wasn’t bad and I still maintain his sacking was pretty harsh

He had a lot of extenuating circumstances, but 7th down to 14th and slipping further is still poor

Is Osho’s contract up in the summer and why would him leaving mean we need to get a better keeper?

Good stuff snowers. Bowen certainly knows how to set us up away from home. Those away stats are excellent especially when you consider we have played Fulham, Brentford, Millwall, Preston and Cardiff in that run.

We need to improve at home. We seem to start very slowly and allow away sides to settle too easily. Something for him to work on but overall he has done well.

We can go into next season with more optimism. Ejaria will presumably sign. Hopefully we can get one or possibly both Pele and Miazga.
We need to keep hold of Rafael, Moore and Swift.

Our biggest weakness is out wide. We lack pace and trickery on the flanks. That needs resolution.

Don't need Miazga and Moore. They're not a great partnership IMO

Would like to see McIntyre promoted to a more senior role in the team soon, I don't think another season of being 4th choice would be too beneficial personally. Moore, Morrison, McIntyre and either a youngster/someone happy to be 4th choice would suffice next season

There has been an improvement under Bowen, no doubt about that.

But given the huge amounts the club has invested in player recruitment, I would say that a top 6 finish (or top 6 form) is the absolute bare minimum the club should be achieving this season. Anything else should be considered a failure.

Bowen obviously hasn't been coaching the team all season, but I wouldn't be giving him any more than 7/10 so far.

On the field, the team is at least starting to move in the right direction.

By my count Bowen has got 34 points from 22 games = 1.55ppg, over a season that equates to 71 points, which you would have to say should be good enough for a top 6 position.
