England and Germany are the only 2 countries where there is any culture of watching football outside the top 2 tiers and German attendances fall off a cliff beyond tier 3.

The Conference National has higher average attendances than the Top flights of 22 countries affiliated to UEFA. And Conference N/S is higher than 11.

Aren't Bundesliga ticket prices a lot cheaper than the Premier League's?

Yes.

I used to work with someone in Yorkshire who said it was cheaper for him to fly to Germany and watch Borrussia Dortmund than it was to travel to London and watch Arsenal.

Jagermesiter1871 Isn't the average attendance in Germany massive?
Is that due to affordable ticket pricing though? - If so, that means the same income as a UK club charging twice the price for half as many seats..... although with twice as many fans you sell twice as many shirts, beer, food etc etc

Affordable tickets do obviously have something to do with it, but they have the football culture and the history to go with it.

It is a totally different match day experience over there. Supporters are still treated like supporters and looked after rather than treated like customers like we are here. The policing is far more relaxed over there too, you can enjoy a beer in your seat/whilst standing and you don't have the stewards or police watching you like hawks or getting involved needlessly.

It get the feeling that in Germany, the paying spectator is still held in higher esteem than the paying viewer.
