AthleticoSpizz One game Westwood

I’ll raise you many of the 2011 play off final team too in that case.....

Cummings did ok once he got a drcent run in the team.

Do you mean Gary ?
Him of the custodian during the 13 win streak ?

SCIAG Oliver Norwood.

Defensive midfielders who have good technique, good positioning and don’t sprint much get accused of being lazy showponies.

Defensive midfielders with poor technique, poor positioning and who run around a lot get praised for doing the dirty work that doesn’t get noticed.

In practice for most of the last decade the lazy showponies have been the ones doing the dirty work. Norwood is the best example.

Yeah. Possibly a bit like Gomes in the early days?

Chris Makin in 05/06. Only played a small role, but filled in for Shorey for over a month and we barely missed him. Decent shout to John Oster that season too.

+1 for the Jay Tabb love. Would play anywhere, always gave his all, was never the most glamourous in his brand of football but never put a foot wrong either. The kind of player every squad needs. Great bloke too apparently.

Thought Norwood was excellent for us and was gutted when we sold him.

Just watching the Man Utd v Sheffield Utd game and he's been superb. Seems to be in the right place all the time and some wonderful through balls.

Having said that Man U have just gone in front!

Matt Mills.....Think had he stayed his career might have taken a better path.......
(I shall now seek personal protection and go into hiding).

My other choice was the rather under appreciated Joey Van Den Berg. Not pretty but when played in the midfield, to me seemed useful and a pain for the opposition.

Joey had a really good pass on him tbf. Quality player, once he got those first few bad performances out of his system.

Can’t agree with the Jay Tabb shout, he offered literally nothing in four years - he even managed to get sent off on the bench.

Ran a lot, sure, but I don’t think he ever got over 5/10.

VdB was a convenient scapegoat. For a cheap punt, he did all right.

Only player who passed the ball with any zip under Stam half the time.

And pace to the pass was the only way his shit worked.
