Hopefully as has been said this is just a way of us bumping up the price.

You can’t keep a player ata club if they want to leave or progress, never works out

NewCorkSeth Owner trying to block Swift from leaving

Hope this is a hardball tactic. I love the man but he won't be happy, a move to the Blades would be a good career choice for him.

It'd better be hard ball. If we force him to stay and bump up his wages, clearly we've learned nothing and nothing will improve

Yep, very worrying lack of learning

Yes it’s very odd. Though Reading have the money FFP rules forces the club to cut its cloth to comply with those rules so it makes no sense to keep these “star” players, and risk them either being ***** off at not getting the chance to move when there is PL interest or losing them for nothing when their deal eventually runs out, and continually being up against it with FFP.

Presuming therefore it’s just negotiation speak.

FFP is a joke. Not surprised owners aren't taking it seriously.

Tbf, there could be 3 teams given a points deduction this season. It's not that unlikely that Sheff Wed and Wigan will be relegated because of it. We should take FFP compliance very seriously

Also, Reading doesn't have the money. It makes a huge loss every year. The owner has the money.

It's always very dangerous to rely on continuous big hand outs from someone rich to cover your massive inability to run sustainable finances

We should live within our means.

I am not advocating ignoring the rules, I would prefer the club to be run sensibly and very much within our means however when Man City are getting away with whatever they want it very much seems like a system with the unintended consequence of punishing smaller teams for smaller offences.

Besides I imagine there is a lot of owners, ours included probably, willing to risk it all to get to the premier league where they know they will recoup the losses.

Indeed. One day that owner will want to walk away leaving us in potentially dire straits. We need to live within our means or at worst post small losses.

Yes, you don’t get money for nothing.

Interesting comment fromMark Bowen in his interview he is not expecting any of the loan players back next year. So that may mean the Ejaria deal is off as well.

Looking like relying on kids next season, will be surprised if we stay up.

I thought it was an obligation to buy, but clearly there are ways out. Massive shame if he can't stay

If Swift goes and Ejaria doesn’t join then our creativity is going to be a big problem. I was suspicious when Ejaria wasn’t involved in the past few games.

I would like to see a vastly reduced squad size next season & a tighter knit squad.

When you have so many loan players in the squad, it’s inevitable performances right at the end will subside. Happened in the Brian v2 season too

Will be very interesting to see what happens now with the EFL due to discuss a wage cap for the league. This could really help sort out squad sizes across the division

Good, over rated. Was good at the beginning of the season but soon tailed off. Not worth the money. Would rather we ditched all the mercenaries. And stopped buying premier league rejects, they never work out. Would much rather a team full of academy players/lower league bargains. At least they will fight for the shirt.

Ejaria update

I'm not sure if that [the agreement to sign him] is now possible due to the financial constraints.

What creativity? It's not like we make shedloads of chances with both of them plus Olise. Our biggest issue is lack of chances, despite all the stick Puscas gets he isn't missing many chances as they don't happen.

A couple of quotes from Bowen that give me some hope for next season

“I came in with the job of rebuilding the club and the philosophy so I can't wait to get started next year to get my players in, my team together with maybe a stronger and different philosophy”

Maybe a hint that he will be signing the players and not taking the players Kia Joorabchian offers us.

“This club needs building. We have to make sure we recruit well in the summer and get a different attitude to things. I want to get a young vibrant side that is full of running, full of energy and show the fans that we can play a high-tempo game and take games to the opposition”

I also read that the Ejaria deal may be in doubt as we can’t offer the original wages we had promised. Personally if it means we are now trying to put some sort of wage structure in place rather than paying them what they want I can only see this as a good thing. Was it Atlanta in Serie A who are in the Champions League who have a cheaper wage bill than us.
