Why so you can manipulate the stats that prove your point?

End of the day, the main stat which matters (and the only one really comparable) is that we finished 14th on 56 points compared with 20th on 47 points last year, a total which would've taken us down this year. We also scored more goals this season and conceded less when compared with last season.

It's not manipulating the stats. 22 games is a reasonable sample as is the last nine since resumption of season. They both show a dramatic decline in form. Very few owners wait until they have had a full season of barely more than a point per game before acting.
If Bowen continues as he left off, we are down next season.

A more reasonable sample would be to look at his form over his entire tenure so far, rather than just a date mid-way through his tenure or from the beginning of a period of the season which is totally unprecedented.

If he continues his form from the beginning of his tenure, 48 points from 35 games, you end up with 63 points over a season which this season would've been good enough for 11th or 12th depending on GD. Teams which were challenging for the play-offs with only a couple of games to go.

Table based on 9 games since restart would put us 16th, table based on results since jan 1st puts us 17th.

So not relegation form.

Extrapolate our last 3 results over an entire season and we'd finish bottom on 0 zero points

Also a table extrapolated from the last game played sees Reading not only with 0 points but also a quite horrendous GD and terribly indisciplined.

On the plus side, our attendances extrapolated from the last few home games, hold up well against even some of the biggest teams in the PL. 8)

This run of 9 games should not be used to judge any manager in a positive or negative light. Too many factors involved and just not a realistic barometer unless you think we'll always finish seasons in July when we had nothing to play for and a number of players involved on effectively a 1 month contract.

NewCorkSeth Its funny how often we debate changing managers yet all seem to agree we change managers too often. Its like half of us have fooled ourselves into thinking "yeah, the next one will do better. That'll be the one to improve us".

Also if we were going for a new manager it should be the Cowley brothers.

Didn't they very nearly get Huddersfield relegated with a more expensive team than ours ?

Yeah I suppose. I just read a lot of good thing about him. Also expensive but not necessarily better!

Exactly this. Succinctly summed up. Countless managers struggle to motivate teams in mid table, let alone in this set of circumstances.

A fair chunk of this group of players have continually failed under successive managers. Maybe we’ve consistently picked bad managers. Maybe they’re actually just not that good.
