Stranded Fan boycotts etc are just a bit crazy esp. when no idea when fans can return. If we start badly fans will whinge, if we are top 6 by end of October majority will be happy enough with life. As the old saying goes, you are only as good as your last result and if they are good, very few will complain about the last week in August.

I'm boycotting the Colchester game.

Will take the batteries out of my radio

Is it possible that no manager would commit while there was a soft embargo so we waited
until that was removed? Perhaps the new man was more-or-less on board, pencilled in
a fair while ago and the final move was delayed by the EFL.

And, also, it may be that Bowen was never looked at as a long-term manager.

He may have been asked to "drop" to manager ('temporarily") and then he started to
think, hey, maybe I could actually DO this.

Maybe we were after this new guy (or someone else) for this summer and Bowen was never
a long-term thought for the owners.

Just saying the above makes me think, whatever I think/thought of Bowen as manager in the short-term, could I REALLY
think of him as the kind of manager that could get us to top-six and eventually lead us to the Premiership?

He has never made me feel that.

Exactly. Too many unknowns in an unprecedented strange time.

It is what it is, all hail Paunovic!!!

Though didn’t the club agree to extend MB’s managerial contract to the summer of 2021 back in January?

Given we didn't have a soft embargo, no.

AthleticoSpizz Ian will be proven right

Is there any chance you stop obsessing about me and contribute something of value occasionally.
obsessing about you?....a little bit strong Ian don’t flatter yourself, ...we’ve met...you’re a good kid....but nah, just piling-on with (what is otherwise known as) bantz with the other scores of posters.

As for contributing “something of value” as you ask....I think that you have all bases covered already...20 years on from my first post, I agree with you otherwise.....nothing of value from me.

Oh and..lighten up btw :D

First I've seen any mention of that anywhere. Seems strange seeing as we could sign Laurent without a problem. And it went ahead pretty much as soon as Howe and Bowen were out the way with little change in financial situation. Or are we saying a shirt sponsor paid for it.

Tbf, Laurent was a free and as long as the wages were reasonable there wasn’t going to be an issue as all the wages of the players we released would vastly outweigh those of Laurent. Same as last season, with regards to Adam and Morrison.

The shirt sponsor probably helped a little bit.

Even if we were to go up under Paunovic Ian will maintain it was was still a bad decision?

I need a scratching head emoji.

I think when you've had 8 years of baffling stewardship, you tend to assume every decision is baffling, especially when it was preceded by 20 years of fairly safe, conservative ownership,,although it's easier to make safe decisions when expectations and the stakes are so much lower.

Perhaps we need someone that actually know something about football to appoint a manager. Maybe the fans should conduct the interviews!

“This has been a process and this appointment has been made only after long, careful consideration. After meeting with him, we found Veljko to be an exceptional candidate who impressed us immediately. I am sure he is the right man for Reading Football Club. I’m delighted he has agreed to sign as our new manager.”

Owner Mr Dai Yongge said, “We are delighted to have been able to bring José and his staff to the club. He comes to Madejski Stadium with a reputation as a forward-thinking coach whose teams are renowned for attacking and effective football. We are looking forward to helping him drive the club forward into a new and successful era and I am sure that all of our supporters will join me in welcoming him to our club.”

“I am delighted to have secured the services of a hugely experienced forward-thinking manager like Paul, who I have personally worked alongside during our time spent at Chelsea.

“Not only has he coached at some of the greatest clubs in Europe, winning trophies, league titles and European honours and working with some of the greatest players in the world, fundamentally he also has a rich understanding of English football having managed in both the Championship and the Premier League in recent years.

Bowen was talking about “Finances need to be sorted” etc

And most people presumed it was

(a) FFP

and

(b) RFC trying to break an already-signed contract with Liverpool

Nobody KNEW what was the actual case

We didn’t finally buy Ejaria “because” Bowen has been moved. That would be ridiculous.

But Bowen’s move, Ejaria signing, talk of multiple signings, a new manager, and the re-jigging of FFP pretty much all came together.

Then the local press said (a) the signing was OK’d by the EFL and (b) we had been under a soft embargo

This makes total sense, seems to fit all the facts. Whether Ian Royal has or had not previously heard about this is totally irrelevant
