Are the club's media team still on furlough?

Pepe the Horseman Bowen could be leaving after all, according to ya man Eddie.

CONFIMRED. A nice parting gift from RFC making it sound like it was his decision to step down as manager.

We can confirm that Mark Bowen has departed Reading Football Club

Having stepped away from his position as manager a few days ago, Mark was offered a new role within the Royals’ restructure, but after careful consideration he has chosen to pursue new opportunities elsewhere.

Just seen the confirmation by the club on Twitter.

Might I add I find Reading fans on Twitter to be a bunch of negative tossers.

Fans are fully justified to react negatively to this. Bowen has been treated very poorly. We have yet another very odd managerial appointment to look forward to.

Has he? His record was average, the timing is pretty poor but that's about it. The worst thing about it was he couldn't seem to get the team going post-lockdown, some absolutely gutless performances with the great win at Luton amongst the mix.

Fans very quickly laying into the Chinese owners who have invested a lot of money into the new training facilities, offer amongst the lowest tickets in the division, offered free away travel to the furthest stadiums and offered iFollow for free to ST holders. They want to invest heavily to get us up, these are the owners that before FFP most fans would be delighted to have but because of FFP, which is a shit system that will never work while parachute payments exist, people think we're a financial mess.

Look, I get the way this whole managerial change has happened is a mess but Bowen is being played up as having achieved far more than he did which I'm finding quite ridiculous, I think it's fair to say it was wrong to do it so close to the season's start but that's about it.

I’m with you on the good stuff they have done. However these constant managerial changes every nine months are absurd. We have seen that it just doesn’t work over the past five or six years. We now seem to specialise in bringing in managers with zero experience of the Championship. They bring in their own preferred style of play and formations and we are back to square one again.
Little wonder the players don’t play consistently well when they know the current manager isn’t going to be around very long.

Fans wanted him gone for most of he’s time as manager, now he’s gone there upset. Get a grip. It might work, it might not. Owners are trying to make it work (right way or wrong way)

Sheffield Wednesday defender gets sent off for punching the ball off the line first game of the season then reading prob win that game and get a bit of confidence. They didn’t and then struggled. Just need a bit of luck with any manager in charge and see where that takes us.

Which fans wanted him gone? The vast majority didn’t.Some of our fan base is so fickle these days. Christ if this guy starts badly you will doubtless be calling for his head.

Looking forward to all those saying the changed were fine because Bowen was in the loop and happy to be DoF eating some pie.

Treated disgracefully.

Shambles.

The decision to remove Bowen aside, the communication and overall way the whole thing has been handled is amateurish and disgraceful.

Bowen’s League record of 13 wins, 13 losses and 9 draws is a marked improvement on what Stam (second season), Clement and Gomes achieved. I can guarantee we will have some muppets applauding the new appointment who will want him sacked if we start badly.

It’s been an absolute shambles. Too quick to offer him the perm contract & treating him like shit when he kept us up is a disgrace. Can’t imagine we are going to fare much better this season & we could see all his work undone pretty quickly.

Good on Bowen for leaving us...he’ll be much better off out this basket case of a club. Bumpy times ahead guys, buckle up

Yep, really pleased Bowen told us where to stick it when treated like shit. Hope he goes on to prove a success somewhere that isn't a basket case. Clearly plenty of promise for a successful career.

Sad to say I agree. I tend to be relatively positive re Reading FC but the shambles over the past week defies belief. We are about to start the new season with rookies in charge of the club. They have no experience of the Championship. At least when Gomes came in Nigel Howe was in the background. I wish them all the best but I think we are going to be in deep trouble.

What were people expecting Bowen to achieve with a squad perpetually averaging a point per game? Under him 33 games 48 points. With a summer window and a first opportunity to mould the squad how he wanted to I would have been optimistic. Now a complete rookie in charge are posters seriously expecting better than Bowen achieved?

As funny as that'd be, they'll be back before it kicks in, even if it does go back on the list.

What has happened to this club?

MB's appointment was dubious, he then stabilised the club before lockdown. The performances weren't the best but they got results so nobody was complaining. Some deluded fools even talked of the playoffs.

Post lockdown, it was dreadful. If MB had got the elbow a week after the Swansea debacle, nobody would have flinched.

The way this has been done smacks of a lack of class. An unknown replacement, a sudden trip to Portugal and with two weeks to the start of the season, hardly any signings and a glaring need for recruitment.

The first half a dozen games are going to be so important. A bad start and it could be a long season. Again.
