Deadline Day

by Westwood52 » 02 Feb 2021 10:39

Never known such a damp squid of a deadline day.We did zero business ?I can understand why, with FFP.We still have no real cover for Omah;however with Yids coming back last week,RB now looks solid.Even the big boys, did next to nothing.Don’t know why Sky Sports News bothered really.

There is, actually. He should've used that instead of start a new thread.

No cover for Omar. Apart from McIntyre and Gibson with Bristow a youth option.

And Yiadom can play LB if all those aren't available.

Do you think that the money saved on bringing in new players and loans now will be ploughed into renewing the contracts of the talent we already have?

How bad do we think the club finances really are at present as the club have managed to get several new sponsors in recently and surely the Sky coverage has brought some money additional in. How does this compare to having a 2/3 full stadium every other week?

Not right now, unless we have a star player out of contract at the end of the season.

Don’t think the transfer window has any bearing on new contracts. We ‘ve been talking to players about contracts.
The usual point about finances versus FFP. WE DON’t have financial problems. We could pay every player £50k a week and sign half a dozen more. What stops us is having to stay within FFP. We have FFP challenges not because of the current situation but because we messed up in previous years. FFP doesn’t really work for a club like ours where a mega rich owner wants to invest large sums.

Long and King going in opposite directions is probs the biggest transfers for me. Think if anything our competition has got weaker.

Isn't it "a damp squib"?

Because you know, squids are wet, not damp.

A squib being a firecracker, which obviously doesn't work properly when damp.

What I don't get with FFP is how a club (Derby) can be allowed to sign several players on loan when they can't pay their existing players on time.

Was there any fee transfers at all in the EFL?

A sign of the poor state of finances.

Said on the radio yesterday that there were a few that were undisclosed and how this implies a small fee.
