South Coast Royal I think Puscas is one of those that gets better and better (in people's minds) the longer they are out injured.

Mid Sussex Royal On a different point, why was the Brentford game played on Wednesday and not Tuesday? Surely as a rearranged game we would have had the main say as the home team but this seems to have suited Brentford more than us as they are playing today.
Rowett admitted after the game their tactics played on us only having 2 days prep

Solid hard working champ striker, 14 goals last season, capable of brilliance on his day
Not going to suddenly score 15 in the rest of the season but a very useful
Option to have knocking about

Joao is regularly marked by 2 or even 3 players therefore there has to be space for our midfield 5.
Rino was getting forward a bit yesterday but IMHO I don't think the midfield work hard enough.
We need 2 or 3 busting a gut to get alongside and /or breaking into the box and the stats show that we don't score many from midfield.
When Meite plays it's different but the key thing there is "when Meite plays" because he just doesn't play enough and with Puscas also hardly ever being available the weight on Joao's shoulders is excessive.

What do you expect when you have Ejaria slowing the game down? We need a player in the Andy Hughes mould who has the skill but also the drive to propel the ball into row z on every cross

JR Interesting comments from Rowett - claiming that being made to change and give teamwalk in horrible facilities was extra motivation for his side.

Scored 14 in a season when the team was very average. Imagine he’d score more in a functional set up like this season

Yeah if anything Puscas’s stock seems to have fallen while he’s been out of the side. He’s a great second choice. If we’d had him up front ahead of Baldock when Joao was out we’d have had the benefit of Puscas’s hold up play as well as his goal threat.

Doesn't sound like a very Reading thing to do.

Puskas is rubbish and hold up;he is at his best exploiting space behind the CB s.Then he is very good.

Disagree. He’s too slow to threaten many players in behind (although obviously there have been exceptions). Hold up play is a major part of his game, and he’s reasonably good at it, particularly in comparison to someone like Baldock. See e.g. his goal earlier in the season when Holmes fizzed a pass into him, he turned his man and scored.

He's not very good at either IMO. His hold up play improved in his few appearances this season, but to suggest it's a major part of his game is baffling. His first touch was consistently poor last season and very little stuck with him at all.
He needs to show a lot more to be a decent lone striker in the Championship. Lots to like in a pair, if we had the right partner and played 2 upfront. But the closest to that is Baldock and we don't.

And yet he scored 14 goals last season which were probably nearly all scored as a lone striker.
