Zip I’d like to see two up front for this one and bring in Puscas and drop Semedo. Also Holmes in for Yids.

Echo my thoughts slightly although would go with the following:

Rafael

Yiadom
Moore
Morrison
McIntyre
Richards

Laurent
Rinomhota
Olise

Baldock
Joao

Southwood Esteves Holmes Gibson Tetek Ejaria Semedo Aluko Puscas

Just don’t feel the 4-2-3-1 is as balanced without Meite and perhaps Swift too

Not sure Puscas can start yet - otherwise he probably would have come on sooner

You’ve complained about Semedo not being creative, so you have dropped him for Liam Moore. That doesn’t make sense to me. It allows Richards and Yiadom to play higher, yes, but I don’t see that compensating for the loss of Semedo. Maybe if Araruna was at right back.

Similarly, I can understand feeling like Ejaria hasn’t contributed enough recently, but I don’t think dropping him for Baldock is going to make us more productive.

I don’t really see much choice other than sticking with the same team or bringing in Aluko. There are changes that could be made at the back but they’re not likely to sort out our creativity issue.

Can see the case for resting the big three, but in the short term we’re still more likely to win with them on the pitch. If we rested all three of them then we’d have a front four of Aluko, Semedo, Baldock, and Puscas, which should really be good enough to win games at this level but Baldock is horribly out of form and Puscas is recovering from a serious injury.

In fairness, a front four of Aluko, Semedo, Ejaria and Baldock was enough to comfortably beat Luton, with what you’d call the “weakest three” all contributing to at least one goal

The idea behind it is a bit of a refresh as we appear to have hit a bit of a snag. Can fully understand that (A) it’s not ideal and (B) our away form has actually remained pretty strong throughout with only the home form dropping

Just think that as others have alluded to, too much emphasis on plan A but not enough on a plan B. Which is great when you’re winning games, but it also explains our poor record from losing positions

5-3-2 or 3-5-2 they are basically the same really, 5-3-2 when defending and 3-5-2 with the wing backs attacking! This formation really looks like it could work for our current crop of players.
It allows us to play all three of our central defenders together, it allows Yiadom and Richards to naturally attack as wing backs. People are saying we cannot play Ejaria/Swift and Olise in the same team, then dont!! Play Laurent and Rinhomota as holding midfielders with either Ejaria or Olise as the advanced midfielder, meaning rotation and no burnout.
And finally, at front, Joao would have a striking partner. Joao is an amazing hold up player and having Puscas alongside him would ease the pressure, and let us all admit it, Puscas can be deadly (Cardiff wonder goal, Wgan 5 min hattrick), and when tired we have Baldock, yes, not everyones cup of tea, however he is a proven goalscorer when given a partner to play up front with.

I really do believe if give a run of games, this change of formation could suit this current crop of players and play to our strengths.

PS i totally forgot Meite!! this guy causes havoc everywhere on the pitch lol. Insert Meite for either Puscas or Baldock, again given rotation and relieving burnout.

Wouldn’t change too much tbh. No need to rock the boat too much.

Maybe start Aluko and move Ejaria to a central position. But that’s about it tbh.

Every time we have been on the verge of going on a bad run we come up with a convincing victory that propels us on again. This will be similar. I have a really good feeling about tomorrow.

It's important right now to deflate the balloons of those chasing 5th/6th

A defeat tonight (even a draw) - if some of the chasing pack win their game -
will be serious.

I'd go so far as to say lose tonight and we will slide slowly out of the top six
and end up around tenth.

Yes, I'm aware that theoretically we could lose tonight then win every other game
and be champions, but ATM we are growing a losing habit, especially at home.

Wycombe's next three games are us, Norwich and Watford. Ouch.

I do worry about them having three ex-Reading players, including one with a grudge.

as a start will be nice to see Mccleary and Obita continuing there careers, the right time for them to leave Reading but I hope they both continue to have successful careers just not tonight.

I would co

Quite like the look of that. Can't believe anyone would put Baldock in the starting eleven though as further back in the thread. He offers nothing.
I think this is going to be a hard slog tonight. I can't see this being easy at all. We need to be at our creative best.
Probably one goal may win it for either team.

Don’t worry I’m sure Mr Ikpeazu will be there to take up any slack in the competitiveness if Mr McCleary misses out.

You do realise you don't have to criticise Aluko and Baldock in every single matchday thread as it becomes rather tiresome. No doubt you'd go MIA if they played well

Surprised you'd drop Laurent given he had last Tuesday off

How to follow the game

  1. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  2. Ring/text a mate for updates
  3. Use an iFollow subscription
  4. Red button from around 7.40pm
  5. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

For those that don't fancy spending the evening listening to Mick and Tim, I've just noticed that the game is also on TalkSport2 so you can spend the evening with Ian Danter and Jason Tindall instead

Moore in.

But who is playing left back? Or is it a weird 3-5-2?

It's definitely the same shape just with Holmes and McIntyre as the full backs.
