gazzer, loyal royal Heard that McIntyre has agreed a new deal with the club. The only thing holding it up is the agents fee

You’re welcome. Great news for the club

I do wonder whether FFP meant we had to clear the wages of OOC players before new terms could be agreed with McIntyre. It may mean more free transfers may follow in the coming days. I also think there will be a lot of players this summer holding out for a better wage offer till the last minute. So might not see much movement till later in the window.

TBH I would take tying down Holmes, Meite, Olise, Laurent and Rafael to a longer contract then making 6 signings this summer for the hell of it.

Keep our core players a LB and a wide player and continue blooding youth.

I don't know, I think if a player is wanted by a club and the wages are OK, most will take a deal quickly. There are a hell of a lot of players available this year, possibly more than ever as clubs need to cut costs and look to get cheaper players in - Morrison alluded to it in his interview yesterday how relieved he was to know he had another year. Some may be willing to take a risk but if a player has a young family, he'll want to know there is income coming in asap, I would imagine.

That football finance guy - Maguire - was suggesting recently that Reading's situation is still pretty awful. It could very well be that we are under an embargo that is far worse than what the average fan thinks.

In the last 3 years we spent over £110m on wages whilst bringing in about £50m in revenue. So i'm spit-baling here - but I wouldn't be too surprised if, even with a return to normal attendance at games and higher waged players of our books, if next season we were looking at something like £30m+ in wages compared to less than £20m in revenue.

I'm not sure why the EFL would allow us to add anything to our wage bill whilst we are above the £13m a year loss target, even if Olise goes? They might see the income for his sale as simply paying back our large outstanding overspend.

I'm just speculating though.

Interesting*. The club doesn't own the stadium any more but rent it, but I imagine as part of the rental contract we are able to sell naming rights to raise funds.

Would imagine there is a clause like this - wouldn't really make sense otherwise.

Unless the owners want some free money?

I doubt they'd be in the football club owning business if they were worried about free money...

Just because you enjoy throwing money at a football club doesn't mean you wouldn't take the chance to reclaim a little bit of it.

I agree though that it's more likely that they want to top up Reading's finances than their own.

There would be no point the owners selling the naming rights and not doing so wearing their RFC hat. In real terms it's irrelevant but a few million quid from a 3rd party would help a lot. Of course we could be playing in the Renhe Stadium if they sell the rights to themselves...

Fulham would do well with someone like M&S or Tesco. Welcome to the M&S Craven Cottage Pie or the Tesco Craven Cottage Cheese. The possibilities are endless.

A bunch of Unders have agreed deals:

We are delighted to announce that Femi Azeez and James Holden have signed new one-year deals with the club.

Lynford Sackey, Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, Harvey Collins, Kian Leavy and Malachi Talent-Aryeetey have also all agreed their first pro-contracts.

(Not sure if this should be in first team or academy post any more!)

I reckon some of the academy lads are being taken on in the hope they become a success as much for the lettering on the replica shirts as on the pitch :-)
