MATCHWATCH : Norwich City (a)

by Sutekh » 27 Apr 2021 16:39

When : Saturday, 1st May 2021, 3pm
Where : Carrow Road, Norwich, NR1 1JE
Capacity : 27,220

All over. No real reason to care about this trip to Norfolk, just hope Reading play OK and avoid anything embarrassing (eg. another 7-1 or sendings off) this (and next week) then start the long difficult process of trying to get a promotion competitive squad together for next season for a cut price outlay.

Be nice to only involve players who will be at the club next year and give matchday experience, if not actual game time, to some of the fringe youngsters that could be stepping up more fully in the next 12-18 months.

Referee

Oliver “when is a penalty not a penalty” Langford

Previously

16 Feb 21 > Bristol City 0-2 Reading
02 Dec 20 > Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Reading
19 Apr 19 > Bristol City 1-1 Reading
12 Jan 19 > Reading 2-0 Nottingham Forest
24 Nov 2018 > Wigan Athletic 0-0 Reading
22 Aug 2018 > Blackburn Rovers 2-2 Reading
17 Mar 2018 > Norwich City 3-2 Reading
26 Dec 2017 > Bristol City 2-0 Reading
28 Oct 17 > Reading 0-2 Middlesbrough
12 Jan 17 > Reading 0-1 Queen’s Park Rangers
03 Dec 16 > Fulham 5-0 Reading
04 Oct 16 > Portsmouth 2-2 Reading U23 (Checkacrowd Trophy)
27 Sep 16 > Brentford 4-1 Reading
19 Jan 16 > Reading 5-2 Huddersfield Town (FAC3R)
16 Dec 15 > Hull City 2-1 Reading
11 Mar 14 > Leeds United 2-4 Reading
14 Dec 13 > Huddersfield Town 0-1 Reading
06 Mar 12 > Reading 1-0 Portsmouth
27 Aug 11 > Hull City 1-0 Reading
16 Oct 10 > Reading 0-1 Swansea City
09 Feb 10 > Reading 1-0 Plymouth Argyle

Historically

There have been 73 league games between Norwich and Reading which makes this game the 37th league visit to the Canaries. Of the previous 36, 10 have resulted in wins for Reading while 17 games have gone the way of Delia’s boys. There have only been 2 goalless games in those previous 36 so odds are there will be some picking the ball out of the back of the net to be done by at least one keeper......

How to follow the game

  1. Listen to Radio 5 Live and/or a myriad of other radio stations for score flashes
  2. Ring/text a mate for updates
  3. Use an iFollow subscription
  4. BBC Radio Berkshire (FM : 104.4, 104.1 or 95.4 depending where you are in the area)

I'll be somewhat upset if we put in a storming performance and blitz Norwich now it doesn't matter.

Nah, I'm out for a friends birthday on Saturday so will give this a miss. Although I haven't watched any iFollow games this season anyway, so it won't be that much of a change.

Two games to play, and two pretty meaningless games in terms of positioning in the table. Lets drop anyone who is leaving and out of contract and give a few of the fringe players a shout.
Tetek and Southwood are a must and i guess one of the young left backs. I know its Norwich we're playing but if we play the same team as the last few months then we will learn absolutly nothing.
Also, it gives the manager two free hits at planning for the much needed "Plan B" option.

I think Pauno is between a rock and a hard place.

If he fields a few kids and fringe players and we get tonked 6-0
it might cost him his job. If he could explain up front, maybe it
would be OK. I think he will go with best 11 and kids (not Aluko etc)
on the bench.

Just a thought. If Aluko would take a drastic pay-cut, would people take him on a two-year contract?

Good points, I don’t expect a team of people we hardly recognise but definitely anyone who is going in the summer, ALUKO, Baldock etc don’t even put them on the bench

ALUKO I would ditch even if he took a huge cut in money, give him his due he has been ok when called upon this season but overall I view him as a bit of a bad apple and I’d like to see a freshening up this summer with the likes of him gone

No, it’s the girlfriend’s birthday so will be doing something.

Didn’t watch the Swansea game on Sunday as I flew down to Newquay. It’s quite nice not having your weekend ruined by watching Reading.

I can't see Rafael being dropped even for a meaningless game like this.

I wouldn't take Aluko if he paid to play. Genuinely.

I will just two more games left to slag off the team the ref and clueless manager. Then three months with nothing to be miserable about.

He’s good enough to be a back-up player at this level so I’d take him if he was on £1-2k per week.
