Wikipedia I know but this doesn't list us as having had to apply for re-election: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Re-election_(Football_League)#Third_Division_North_and_South
It's correct. It was only ever the bottom two in each of Div 3 S and Div 3 N. When Div 4 came about in 1958-9 it was then the bottom four who had to re-apply.
Correct, Reading have never had to apply for re-election to Division 3S or Division 4 (or even Division 3N) as those divisions did not exist in season 1920-21. That season Reading were competing in Division 3.

Fox TalbotJackson Corner 1920-21 our 50th anniversary we finished 3rd from bottom of division 3 South and I believe this was the only time the club has had to appeal for re election, fortunately in those days it was bit of a closed shop so the bottom 3 survived.
1970-71 season our 100th anniversary we were relegated from the third to the 4th Division on goal difference.

We’ve never had to apply for re-election. It was only the bottom two in Div 3S who needed to.

John Smith We 100% won't be relegated this season and anyone to suggest so simply is not a supporter.

Top football pedantry! And even when playing in Division 3 in 1920-21 Reading still didn't have to apply for re-election.

Of course I don’t want to see us get relegated and technically our anniversaries are the season after it was just meant as a bit of fun. Having said that I am worried there maybe a hangover from last season, not to mention our thread bear squad is a worry especially if we start picking up injuries to senior players.
And not to mention we have looked rank in our pre season games let’s just hope we see something positive from the Palace game.

Totally. There are plenty of teams worse than us

Results will decide that.

Crowbar6753 These next three weeks or so in the free market are critical in how our season will pan out. If we can aquire a few shrewd signings as cover i believe mid table will be comfortable. If no one comes in then i believe we could be in trouble, especially if Swift and Joao pick up injuries.

More footy pedantry: Reading got relegated in 70/71 on goal average. Goal difference was not introduced to the Football League until 1975.

Not checked but I'd imagine we'd still have been relegated on goal diff....we took some heavy beatings that season

Yes, would not have made a difference. Conceded 85 that season. Oof. Conceded 77 the season before, but Jack Mansell's forward line scored for fun (87). The goals dried up and the outcome was inevitable.

At least Mansell stuck to his promise to take us out of Div 3
