Lost 4-0, Huddersfield didn't play. Still the magic number drops from 49 to 46 because Cardiff lost, so their max is now 83, below Huddersfield's.

With Cardiff losing last night our magic number for staying is 44 as although Blackpool and Huddersfield can both get to 83 they play next week so one (or both) of them can only get to a maximum of 81

It's actually 43, because whilst Cardif are above the bottom three, their max is 80 so less than Hudders or Blackpool because of their 2 more games played.

Wigan can get* 79
Blackpool and Hudersfield can get* 83 (but only one can so at least one can only get 81)
Cardiff can get* 80

So we need 82 to be sure but I've chosen to assume GD will be in our favour (big assumption) and said 81 will do it

Fair, I forgot Pool and Hudders were equal and if they draw, both can make 81, putting Cardiff 23rd not 22nd and therefore not the high bar.

Assume our GD is currently superior to any of the bottom 4/5 but not checked.

Yeah it does sound about what we'd expect. If/when we get to 50 points, we will be safe I reckon. The sooner we get there, the better. 3 wins this month would be very much ideal.

Reading - 86 (16 to play - 38 pts)
.........
Cardiff - 74 (15 to play - 29 pts)
Wigan - 77 (16 to play - 29 pts)
Hudders - 76 (16 to play - 28 pts)
Blackpool - 76 (16 to play - 28 pts)

Magic Number is 38

But Hudders and Blackpool are still to play as per SF so can't both get to 76.

Play offs seem long gone at this point. And despite probably still being ok, we look like yet another finish in the bottom 7, when we should really be lower mid-table.

We basically rebuilt our team from scratch with a spending handicap that probably puts us in the bottom 3 of wage bills in the league . . . .

The team isn't really the problem at present, its the Management and their tactics which are killing us.

Bottom 7 would be a great achievement with the resources we've had. But let's not forget, this is just a poor spell of form. Whereas if we get back to "about average" for us then we will probably climb a couple of places above Birmingham and Bristol City (who are in good form and once they go back to "about average" will probably begin to slip).

QPR and Swansea are on significantly worse form than us

The 4 wins in 18 or whatever it is has been a disproportionate number of away games, at the time that run started we'd played 2 more at home now we've played 2 more away,

Given we have more homes now we should be okay

There's where we were at the start of the season, where anything not involving relegation is a success looking at the season before it starts, and then there's the context of where we've been all season, which is outside the bottom 7 until the last week or so. In which case, it's a failure to make the position we've been in for close to 3 quarters of the season secure.
