Brian Carey

by Stranded » 19 May 2022 16:13

Probably deserves it's own thread but Brian Carey has today joined the club as Head of Recruitment, having left a similar role at Spurs where he has been for 6 years. Imagine his role will involve improving/implementing a proper scouting network.

Signs that the club is committed in moving away from an agent led recruitment approach?

Bowen, Carey, Ince and Rae - new contracts on the table - this club is going places and its not down!!

URZ!

Yet the do mongers will be out in force. What a positive week for the club.

Not sure if it fully means we are committed to moving away from the agent-lead approach, but it may mean there is more information available on said players before we attempt to sign them or it may mean there is less involvement, hopefully the latter.

I see this as a positive move though and it certainly looks as if the club are moving in the right direction now and this is a good step forward with recruitment which is exactly what we need this summer.

Interesting one, obviously have no idea what his actual role was or is going to be here but from the outside it seems Spur's recruitment has been pretty bad for a few years.

Hopefully a step in the right direction though.

Where have you got this?

He's on the books of MN2S, the same agency as Paul Ince.

Google MN2S, they don't represent half the people on their site.

Hmmm. Generally good. But question mark over why he's left Spurs and ended up with us. Bit of a Gourlay alarm bell sounding quietly in the background.

I did. I also cannot find anything to connect Carey to Joorabchian, hence the question in my original post

The leaving Spurs bit is easy. He’s not a Conte man.
Coming to us - we asked him ! There aren’t many head of recruitment jobs, I guess if 3 weeks after leaving a job you get offered another one you either take it or you sit around for an unknown time not earning.
Not sure of the Gourlay comparison, we’ve employed a specialist to do what he specialises in. So quite different to Gourlay....

Does everyone in football have an agent ?
I used to sell Golden Gamble tickets, missed a trick by not getting Kia to put me on his books !

I am seeing this as a positive in terms of there being a plan/structure. I am pretty sure that this would have been part of Ince’s discussions with Dai. Ince may turn out to be a poor choice of manager but in the long run we might have a lot to thank him for. Do Spurs have any good youngsters we might be able to get on loan?

Don't know but whenever I play FM, Dane Scarlett always turns into a world class player.

He's come up through the ranks as well if you look at his CV. From specialising in the North West area , to Europe and then Head Of Recruitment. The thing that probably makes him unsuitable for Spurs is exactly what could make him ideal for us at this time

Very true.

He may not fit a club pushing for CL football regularly or eyeing trying to close the gap to the top 2 but a struggling Champ team. Time will tell but it seems a good, positive fit.

I made it up. Thought that was the done thing every time someone new joins.

Off field certainly looks encouraging. A long term project though on field.

Interestingly* Stephen Hunt, who has been pretty critical of the running of the club in the past, has said it's a very good appointment.
