Yet another late injury time equaliser! It seems to me like they’ve won half their points with last minute - and beyond - goals. Still it at least cuts their maximum by a couple more points.

And for some context, Burnley are 7 points behind us after 31 games. If they win their next 6, they will still be 2 points behind schedule.

I’m just dreading the prospect of Burnley beating us by one or two points and that god awful none penalty decision at their place proving to be more costly than we thought. :o

They need 38pts from 45 to beat the record.

They have taken 40 from the last 45.

That would mean they will have taken 78pts from 90 to beat the record.

I just don't see it happening - that is equivalent to a record of W25 D3 L2 over 30 games. If they do that, then I will be mildly annoyed but you have to give them credit.

They have dropped 24 points in 31 games. That's 0.77 points per game. To equal our record they can only drop 8 points from their remaining 15 games, that's 0.53 pts per game.

In other words, their form has to get better in the final third of the season.

Which historically doesn't happen once a team earns promotion/winning the league.

Didn’t Burnley start the season really badly? Mid-table after 10 games or some such?

Exactly. They also have to play Luton (4th) (a), Millwall (best home defensive record in division) (a), Blackburn (big local derby) (a), Middlesbrough (3rd) (a), Reading (3rd best home record in division) (a), Sheffield Utd (2nd) (h).

They won their first 3 then drew 5 of their next 6 so were always around the playoff positions.

15th after 5 games in the season after they threw away a 2 goal lead to draw at home to Blackpool 3-3. Game 10 they'd beaten Bristol City at home 2-1 and were 4th in the table, had a few draws for sure in the early part of the season though.

Apologies, you're right. I didn't notice the BBC website in its infinite wisdom lists fixtures in reverse chronological order by month.

I suppose if you draw your first 3 games, you're in the same position as a team who won 1 and lost 2. Interestingly, they would have gone top after 8 games if West Brom hadn't scored a 98th minute equaliser.

Yeah it's not exactly a great sample to work with when literally 1 result can see you jump up half a dozen places, especially this season where the league was very tight up until recently where it's started to separate slightly.

Burnley need to win 11 and draw 1 of their last 13 to beat it.

Would be strangely satisfying if they come to us on 92pts with 5 to play and we take a point or more off them.
