Snowflake Royal We know that we took multiple players on trial we didn't sign. It's therefore clear we weren't just taking in people we definitely wanted to sign. That means it's very unlikely we started the signing process with the FL on the trialists we did sign from the moment they started training with us. Not least because it's far from certain we'd have wanted to sign Hutchinson or NGW given their age / pedigree. Therefore we can easily infer that many of our signings didn’t take this long.

We also know Loum was done within about a week of us stating our interest openly. Unlike Sarr.

With Hutchinson, it was fairly common knowledge that he was going to sign/had signed well before it was officially announced - to the extent that many were surprised to see him still listed as a triallist for the Brighton game. We have no idea when the paperwork went into the EFL but clear it was a done deal well before it was announced even if there was nothing "official" i.e. like the picture of Sarr in a shirt with his agent annoucing the deal.

NGW was a random one but I imagine that could be rushed through given the length of deal and his likely relatively small wage, imagine it will be around 3k pw max, possibly less. With a 4 year deal, they may want to see forecasts etc, who knows.

According to Bowen, we had been looking at Loum all summer and working on a deal for a few weeks, so again, we may have been able to clear some hurdles with the EFL ahead of the announcement. With Sarr, whilst we've been talking to him clearly for weeks, he has been rightly weighing up his options and certainly came over here to at least speak to Kaiserslauten - so the deal may have happened more quickly.

I've seen it reported that each deal has to go 3 stages of ratification at the EFL, it is possible that 1 or 2 steps could be done earlier but the final step only once a deal is fully agreed - with Sarr it's possible that all 3 steps could only start in the last week or so, so we are finally seeing the full extent of what needs to occur before we can announce a player.

Without knowing the full process it is hard to state that anything is "wrong" but will be interesting to see if we get an update in the press conference today esp. around if he continues to train with us. If he is, then I would suggest nothing to worry about at this stage but frustration at how long it is taking is understandable especially as being in this situation is a mess the club brought on itself.

Anyway, Ince confirms we are still waiting and Sarr still keen. Probably next week now though.

Loum's working visa not processed yet but should be done for the cup game next week.

Latest update from Ince. It doesn’t sound like he’s going to be fit anytime soon, even if he does sign.

Is this part of the issue with signings at the moment, thanks to the FL seemingly taking ages to say yay or nay to a deal, that Reading dare not put prospects through a proper “pre season” until they are signed for fear of them getting injured and so they’re having to play catch up once they do sign?

Don’t have much faith the work permit will be processed anytime soon either with the miserable state of this country

Careful, in the new government order under PM Sunak you’d be hung, drawn, quartered and then deradicalised for a statement like that

It's not just new signings dropping, so more likely they're putting them through the same pre-season.

Our Courtney reports: https://mobile.twitter.com/cfridayjourn ... 4066022401

Bit more on Sarr which didn't come out in presser..

Told Royals need to get a key earner off the books to seal the deal. Turned down sizeable offers for Puscas recently.

Talks started to get Moore out. He's open to leaving but wants to know what's in it for him.

Most recent offer for Puscas as I understand it was less than 1m upfront but 2m in add-ons included. Royals refubbed it

Frustrating to read. But holding out for more for Puscas could generate a much better deal long term, than a quick fire sale just to get Sarr in - as long as we sell him that is....
I am more annoyed about the Moore comment as now it brings back up the ongoing hatred towards him due to his wages,

Yeo no suprises there - think we’d guessed could be along those lines

Such hard work for the club really. Sell Puscas at below his value and we lose that money and also a striker who we might need

The Moore situation so frustrating for everyone involved. Think it’s a good insight into just how tough a job Bowen, Ince and co are faced with

Does this mean that we won’t see anymore incomings now until Moore/Puscas are off the payroll? If that’s the case we’re in a much grimmer position than I thought.

Maybe a cheaper one?

Yep this is pretty dispiriting. The years of stupidity have finally caught up with us and other clubs know we are in such a weak negotiating position. The offer of less than a million upfront for Puscas is derisory.

This has been a grim week.

In a crowded field, I think the 3 worst decisions of the decade have to be Aluko, Puscas and failing to sell Moore to Brighton.

2 Gourlay, 1 under Bowen's tenure

Didn't Bowen once suggest the Puscas deal was made with heavy owner interference?

Nothing happens in a bubble. We've had nothing but inept managers for years. You can spend whatever you like on players but when you have managers who can't get the best out of them the transfers themselves look awful.

To spend millions on a team prepared to take them to the PL but then bring in a useless nobody with no record and no experience of managing in England is by far a bigger cockup than individual player transfers.
