STAR Liaison Thanks to those who attended in person or by zoom. Yes, we did have some tech issues on zoom, sorry about that. Tricky to make these things work as hybrid live and zoom events.

We're not doing a 'transcript' this time - you have to be there for the full monty - but there is a report on the STAR website https://star-reading.org/news/fans-foru ... the-corner - plus, obviously what posters have already said on the thread.

Thanks. Encouraging stuff. Why did Bowen leave first time out of interest - was mentioned briefly on here

Bowen’s own explanation made it all sound a lot less Machiavellian than some assumed. Of course whether is account has been whitewashed will be open to debate but the fact that 18 months on with the same owner and CEO in place maybe tells it’s own story.

What was the explanation broadly?

Wasn’t only a problem on zoom- the sound in the room for Paul and Alex was poor- far better if the radio mike had been used, that was perfect.

Extremely predictable - Bowen was planning on being manager, Dai said he was looking to bring in Paunovic and moved Bowen back to his old role, Bowen gave it a go but his heart wasn’t in it (he thought his future was in management) so he left. Now that he’s been out of management for a while, he doesn’t want to go back in and he stays away from training.

Didn't he literally just leave managing Wimbledon?

Maybe I misunderstood (as has been mentioned, the sound was not great) - perhaps he was only talking about managing Reading rather than managing in general.
