Dodgy Sodje

by shaka's shorts » 28 May 2007 22:53

I am not one to slag off Reading players generally, but I have been very worried by Sam Sodje's performances in the play off semis and final. He was very poor today. Should have been sent off for two yellows and then substituted before he did it again. At fault for the goal, kept losing possession going forward out of defence and tried two embarrassing dives. I'd be delighted if WBA want him, particularly if we can use him as a make weight for a Koumas deal. Bennett and Pearce look much better prospects and we already have Ivar, Bikey and Superman

Given that he'll hopefully be 7th choice centre back next season, I don't think he'll figure even if he stays. However, I'd love to see West Brom give us any money for him as he's useless.

arent you forgetting the doobs too or dont you rate him either, personally woldnt be bothered if sodje left , he has never convinced me since he joined, i would like to see ingi play in sidwells place in midfield next season , reckon he could do a job there , with superman, when he is fit, alongside bikey or duberry at the back

He was shocking today, shame really as I still believe he has potential. however, would love to see WBA give us some money for him, as I can't see him breaking into the first team

Sodje still might be a decent player, but we don't need him. West Brom can have him...if they still want him.

WBA were very impressed with what Sam Sodje had done for them during his loan spell. I hope yesterday's game hasn't changed their opinions of him. He's a good defender at Championship level, but not good enough for the Premiership, not yet anyway.

He played well in all the games leading up to the final. I reckon Albion will take him off our hands as Davis will want to leave for the Premier when he's fit.

Haven't been convinced by him since his debut away at Wigan.

Post title says it all, he makes me extremely nervous when on the pitch playing for RFC.

That game at Wigan was his debut and I thought I'd give him another chance before making any judgement on him. But I haven't seen any improvement, mainly because he hasn't played much.

Though, on watching the play-off final, I did wonder why Sodje was trotting in when Giles Barnes was rounding his defender to cross the ball in for the goal. Why wasn't he dashing in to prevent the cross? Maybe he thought Pearson was being marked and since no other Derby player was ahead of him that he didn't have to show any urgency...... :?

Perhaps Sodje should be loaned to WBA for the season. Give them an option to buy at the end of it, and if he develops well enough in a division that is going to improve him, and if RFC still want him, then take him back as an improved player. For the time being we have loads of center backs, Sodje isn't Prem standard as of yet and he fits well into the WBA side. It would just seem a shame to lose a potentially good center back like Sodje, especially after we've just signed him. (kind of)

'Centre' back, this is not an American message board yet!

Or if we take Koumas without the swap element it's just £2 million !

Don;t think loaning Sodje out for the season would make sense. He's not a young player and I think if WBA make an offer it would make sense to cash in.
