I expect they will do, to a certain extent, though of course the FA can't risk people not turning up if t decends into a reserves match. It's happened before

The sort of people who 'wouldn't turn up' aren't the sort you'd select.

Obvioulsy those who don;t care about playing for the first team (ie the ones who currently play for the first team) probably would suffer a freak toe injury but the modern day Stuart Pearce's would fight to get in. Just a question of whether we can find 11 of them before we reach Conference level.

England have so many central midfielders it would take a disaster of epic proportion for Harper to get near it.

Kitson on the other hand, compared to other English strikers is deserving of a chance.

Behindu suggesting Nicky Shorey as a contender for a 'new' England generation.

Not if he continues to mark his man so poorly.

I think Kitson will remain unlucky while someone very similar in style like Ashton is around. Kitto needs to keep scoring as well

A think a lot of that will depend on who takes over. If he is regularly scoring and playing well then he will get a chance under some coaches.

He probably needs a B international to be arranged.

I do think that for England's next friendly (Feb / March?) both Gerrard and Lampard should be left right out of the squad. Give them something to think about.
Whether that helps Harper is another matter. :!:

Compo's Hat I'll eat my hat if Harper ever plays for England!

If Shorey can get in the England squad based on his current form, then Harper's definitely in with a shout. Yes, I know that Shorey fills a position that England are weak in and midfield is supposed to be our strongest area, but you'll always get 100% out of Harper every game he plays. Which is more than can be said of the lot that limped out of Euro 2008.

IMO, Harper is a better player than he gets credit for on HNA.

Shorey isn't in the England squad on current form, he's there for last season's form, which was as the best english left-back in the country. And I don't expect him to be picked by the new manager, even if it turns out the new manager is SSC.

Behindu Don;t be so sure !
The Independent today also makes reference to Harper as a possible England player.
Although again it's maybe not quite what it seems as it does so only in passing and as a lead into suggesting Nicky Shorey as a contender for a 'new' England generation.

The new England generation?

Hart

Richards R.Ferdinand Terry Shorey

SWP Carrick Sidwell Lennon

Kitson Rooney

Bench: Kirkland, Lescott, M.Johnson, Bentley, Agbonlohor

no room for harper though......

Meanwhile at the Chelsea training ground Steve Sidwell sits in the corner of the dressing room surrounded by piles of cash wondering where it all went wrong.

I'm glad someone quoted Gus's post before he edits it. Interesting slip to mistake George Bush for George Best.
