Alan Partridge No one could manage THIS team any better imo. LOL @ McGhee and Pardew's names being mentioned. That would be manager of Motherwell Murk Murkghee and Alan 'just lost again at home to Burnley this time' Pardew.
McGhee is (predictably) doing a superb job at Motherwell, because he is a very fine manager of modest talent. Half the fourteen players who turned out today were born within 5 miles of Fir Park and five more within 35 miles. So I wouldn't be sneering at a great success story and one that makes me envious of a real local club. However, there's nothing to suggest he can make it as a Premiership manager.

They'll win nothing

He got sacked at Brighton
sacked at Leicester
sacked at Millwall
sacked at wolves

Coppell has done an unrivalled job here to anyone else in 136 years of history so deserves to be backed during this sticky time.

agree to an extent, but there are only so many crap performances we can put up with, it will be interesting to see what he does in jan

Steve Coppell resigned from

Palace
Man C
Brentford
Brighton

says something tho not sure what.

Don't think it says anything:

Palace - resigned following relegation, forced out by Jordon (the last time)
Man C - left for "family reasons"
Brentford - lack of ambition by club / lack of resources
Brighton - to come here

Physci Article in today's telegraph on England etc including the following:
"I am looking very shortly at having some time off, I must admit. My first stint [at Crystal Palace] was nine years, bits here and there, then Brentford, Brighton, and four years here. I am probably due a break. I'd do what Paul Jewell has done, play a bit of golf, get out of the environment for a bit, and then try to re-educate. I'd love to go and watch all the top managers here and abroad."

Plenty of time to play golf etc etc if your England manager.

If he wants to take a break then he has earned it, fair play to the bloke I say. The only thing I am sure of is that if he did decide to leave, within a few weeks the majority of you on here would be slagging him off and would boo him on a return to the stadium.

Is Jack Mansell still alive? If not, only FSB can save us from certain oblivion.

I believe "Lydia Dustbin" is, in fact, a male who rarely posts under his other name anymore. HTH.

oxf*rd me Sir Steve ... I've had 38 years mostly watching, (and paying for the privilege), the likes of the dross your team served up Saturday, (give or take a few years). You don't hear me whinging about taking a rest!! What are the close seasons for!?!?! At least you get paid, (very handsomely), for what you do!

Also in todays Sun http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sp ... 539850.ece

My problem with this is come January who the hell is going to sign for us if they think Coppell might be gone after a couple of weeks.

Either this is a call for the board/fans to back him or he's off.

Interesting also this comes after the discussions on this board on why he left Manchester city.

Alan Partridge 1-0 up, Convey - terrible so making a change, fair enough. So is Doyle going right wing and Long up front?

Or is he bringing on HIS central midfielder signing from the summer, nope it's Bikey.

I think Bikey could play in there, he's good enough. But i think it says more about Cisse than anything else.

What, he isn't 'match fit'? And who was the manager who signed Bikey, as far as I remember it was the same one who signed Cissé :?

Do continue your contributions to this frankly bizarre anti-Coppell tirade though.

Look at the 'Big' teams below us who are 'Friends of the Press'

A conspiracy theorist could think that they would be arranging to have this stuff regurgitated just to unsettle the team even more...

And that would be bollox.

If he wants a break from football, let him.
I'm just hoping that what he means by taking a break shortly actually means after his current contract.

It would be good to hear Coppell comment on this as well.

Not anti Coppell at all if you actually bother to read the thread you will see.

Did he sign Bikey to play central midfield?

I'm pretty certain Cisse is a midfielder...so why didn't he come on?

Sidwell, shorey, lita, now the manager, I smell rats and they are leaving the good ship reading fc sinking. Maybe we should get in captain pugwash.

Coppell will be announced England assistant to Mourinho.
Loads of time to play golf, re-educate, and watch all the top managers here and abroad.
