Havant & Waterlooville friendly

by rotherwick_royal » 08 Jul 2008 12:48

Just found out from a friend in work that we are playing H&W at their place on Wed 16th July before the Scandinavia tour....

http://www.havantandwaterlooville.net/

"Championship side Reading have requested a short notice friendly with the Hawks, to take place at Westleigh Park on Wednesday 16th July with a 7.45pm kick off. Royals manager Steve Coppell contacted the Hawks today about the prospect of a final work out for his first team before they head to Scandinavia for a pre-season tour, and he has promised to bring a full first team side down to the coast for the occasion. Tickets for the match are set at £10 adults and £5 concessions, with a split of the gate going toward Reading’s costs.

Ticket prices for tomorrow’s opening pre-season game at East Preston are set at £5/£3. "

Not on the OS yet.

Really, £10? (I can't be bothered reading the article).

That is very steep.

By your reckoning, what will the line-up be for tonights game with H&WFC?

GIven the players that played last night will certainly not make an appearance, I would imagain us to play with this XI:

Federici
Murty Duberry Sodje Golbourne
Henry Harper Pearce Hunt
Doyle Long

If Sonko, Bikey and Cisse are still away then I think you'll be pretty close with that side.

I'd much rather see someone like Scott Davies given the chance to play alongside Harper in the middle though. Give Pearce a go alongside Duberry to give him a chance to start playing in his own position. He must feel this pre-season is quite important for him and having to play in the middle of midfield would frustrate me a tad if I were him.

Golbourne injured so might be Sodje or Kelly playing at the back.

Excellent news!

Maybe they are taking a look at how Pearce performs there ?

Or maybe they just want every one to get a run out and where they play doesn;t make much difference ?

Good points.

Maybe they are happy with him defensively, but want to develop his movement, passing and awareness.

Or maybe we just don't have enough fit players to put a more balanced side out. It seems a bit of an odd position to be in.

It is only a fitness exercise but I do feel a bit for Pearce.

At a time when he probably wants to be seeing how well he's shaping up against the likes of Duberry, Ivar and Bennett he's having to fill in out of position. For a lad with his size and mobility centre midfield must be a bit of a work out for him.

A shame but no drama.

I imagine Pearce is only playing there because there is noone else who can.

Will be good to see how Henry gets on.

Well from what I've heard, Pearce is supposed to be quite good on the deck, maybe Coppell's just giving him a chance to see maybe he could perform there? Besides with Bryn and Marek injured, Fae gone, we are rather short in numbers in the middle.
