Thanks for all these great suggestions, it seems like villainy brings out the best in you people...only space for 10 all-time villains in our chapter though, it's a kind of top 10 thing so if you cater your selections to that kind of structure i'd go all gooey and gay for you

1) Maxwell - merger
2) Mark McGhee - the way left and what he's said afterwards.ch
3) Mourhino - Hunt v Ce
4) Jason McAteer - cheating dirty scum bucket, who should have got sent off then proceeded to take us apart
5) Fabian Defreitas - dirty cheating wnaker who scored the goals taht beat us at Wembley, despite using his hand.
6) Don Goodman - only player I can remember (scorer) of the goal where two players pushed Mautone in the net at a corner whilst the 3rd scored. 2-1 Wolves match. Cheating scummers.
7) Paul Brayson - for being the worst excuse for a striker I've ever seen.
8) Neil Warnock - for his general antics, even if he is a pantomime villain
9) Tommy Burns - nice guy, but promised so much and delivered worse than nothing
10) Paul Rejer - being a diabolical ref

Holt's not even really in football and I'm not giving him the pleasure of being included.

NB: These all date from '95 onwards. Except Maxwell, who was a big enough cnut for me to include him despite not having been around at the time. (dis)Honourable mentions to Mike Lewis, Simon Shepperd, Paul Bodin, Paul Pescisolido and many many more.

What about Ian Branfoot? As far as I remember he was pretty successful but generated a lot of hostility.

I agree with whoever said Robert Maxwell. We've had bad players, we've had managers, staff and players betray us and throw loyalty back in our face. However only 1 man has tried to destroy us altogether, and even though he was eventually never at the club he has to be the ultimate royals villain.

Surely Waller was equally if not more culpable? At least Maxwell had no Reading connection or supposed loyalty.

I am absolutely amazed that only AJ has referenced Waller.... other than me at bottom of page 1.

Waller ~was~ RFC and it was he who nearly consigned our club to history. Far more of a villain, shirley, than Uncle Bob who didn't have any ownership (until, I think, Waller flogged him a few shares to get on the board, though I may be wrong.)

Oh, Annie Bassett should be on the list, too, for introducing the "membership card"....

Don't really agree with nominating players who you felt were just rubbish, in my opinion if the effort is there then its not the player's fault if they're not quite up to standard.

Would agree that Frank Waller has to be top of the list and Robert Maxwell leading the way as non-Reading villain.
