Did anyone go to the game at Elm Park when there was a fire?

by TBM » 27 May 2009 15:20

Some old fella left his pipe burning causing the whole north stand to evacuate onto the pitch whilst the players waiting in the penalty area  - i remember shaking Shakas hand whilst he paced around the box (one of the few games i was in the seats for, in fact)

10pts to anyone who can remember the opposition??!

I vaguely remember this, haven't got a clue who it was against though. I'll take a guess at Port Vale.

There were four guys who refused to move out of the stand until physically moved.

Notts County. Lovell pulled a hamstring straight after the restart.

Yep. Notts County. My sister has some photo's of this! All the players and the North Stand people on the pitch.

I'll have to scan em in sometime.

I was a bit shady on the Notts County bit, although it's who I thought it was, but my first thought when I saw the title was it was the game that Lovell pulled his hammy.

He only pulled it because of the break in play caused by the fire so it stands out a bit.

2-0 Ding I think.

Uwe scored the second and did a shit dance in front of the Southbank.

There was a fat County fan on the pitch with a bloke in pink hence a chorus of "who's your boyfriend in the pink" and so on.

I knew this. It was definitely Notts County.

Hartenberger did score the second by rounding the keeper, iirc.

I believe this may have been the game when I did the shoot out actually so would have been on the pitch.

It stuck just in my mind because we'd been saying during the break in play that someone was bound to pull something as all the players had just been stood around not bothering to stretch or keep warmed up.

Now this is very strange.

I thought I had only gone to one game at Elm Park http://www.soccerbase.com/results3.sd?gameid=240653

But I definitely was at the Notts County game. I remember the 'Uwe Shuffle' and the fact that the guy in the pink got abuse for about half and hour.

I wasn't there, but my mate went to the game on a first date with a bloke (when she was about 15). She didn't like football, and she was even more peeved when it ended up getting delayed by the old coot with the pipe

October 1994, 2-0 Reading, Lovell and Hartenberger on the scoresheet. Archie definitely tore his hamstring, and I remember later on in the season he was speaking about it on the radio saying he could feel it tightening up while the delay was ongoing and trying to stretch it, but couldn't properly because too many people were distracting him.

Anyway, yes, I was there. My first ever sojourn onto the South Bank. I never stood anywhere else after that.

Didn't the bloke set his jacket on fire having put his pipe in his pocket?
