Nevada Phillips

Dee Road striker Nevada Phillips rolled back the years with a first half cup double in a 3-2 win over Bracknell outfit Microblast United on Sunday.

The 52-year-old was called into action to boost numbers as the Senior Division title challengers were forced to play the opening 25 minutes with 10 men.

Phillips headed in a superb Shaun Dyke cross and quickly added a second before the visitors came back into the game.

Charlie Higgs made it 3-1 to send Dee Road – who are one of the favourites to lift the Berks & Bucks Intermediate Cup – into the third round.

Boss Kenny Nice said: “Players from the old days will remember Nevada – he used to be on Reading’s books.

“He was a tremendous player in his youth and scored two good goals for us.”

Anyone here remember him? - apparently was part of the 1973/74 squad.

52 though, that's some going!

I'm 53 (54 in Feb) and still playing.

Making players young enough to be my sons, look a little silly.

Yep, I remember him. Probably as it was in the days when exotic Caribbean names attracted attention of little boys as I certainly didn't watch any Reserve games. Played cricket for Berkshire as well.

I remember him from the team poster in about 1973 and saw him play park football one time about half-a-dozen years later, where he looked fantastic

Big hair.

Then of course we had the grand-daddy of them all; Andy Alleyne

So I Googled Andy's name and found this

He was banned for life from the Berkshire Cricket League in the late 1980s, he used to play for Purley CC, and in what turned out to be his final match for them was given out but refused to leave the field, instead choosing to sit down on the pitch, ending play.

That looks like Robin Friday in Cardiff kit.

Andy Alleyne had been under the sunlamp a bit longer !!

Don't the Alleyne's make up about 50% of the teams in local football ?

Kim Sainsbury used to dominate the squash ladder at South Reading Leisure Centre in the late 80s ! Very Shakatak hairstyle IIRC...

Picture above is Robin Friday - I am fairly sure it is at the Goldstone Vs Brighton - he was sent off following a spat with Mark Lawrenson - don't think he played another league game.
