Win the cup, no contest at all.

Bouncing back to the Championship would be a distinct possibility, winning the cup is something that may never happen.

And TBF I think there are a lot of Reading fans obsessed by the idea of getting back into the Prem, as if it's the be all and end all.

LUX those with all this "you know nothing about football" posts, surely you experts recognise that the FA Cup is a sideshow nowadays. I could name every Cup final from the 70s and 80s, but have to think hard to remember who holds it now. In fact I do not know who the holders are. Chelsea?

That's age.

Ask younger people about the post-80s stuff - they'll know.

Yes.

2009 - Chelsea
2008 - Portsmouth (scum)
2007 - Man Utd ?
2006 - Liverpool (beat Wet Sham)
2005 - Arsenal (beat Man Utd on pens)
2004 - Man Utd (beat Arsenal) ?
2003 - Chelsea (beat Newcastle) ?
2002 - Arsenal (beat Newcastle) ?
2001 - Arsenal (beat Southampton) ?
2000 - Liverpool (beat Arsenal by coming from behind)

And that's without checking wikipedia or soccerbase! I might be wrong on some of them...

And Smith must score!

I have friends in Brighton - they still talk fondly about that Cup Final. Maybe I'll ask them if they'd swap those days and what's happened to them since for years spent bumping along in the second division. I think I can guess the answer.

A question for the stats people...
...have any team ever won the fa cup and been relegated in the same season?
...has a team reached the the final or semi finals and been relegated in the same season?
...what is the furthest a relegated team from the championship/second tier of english football got in the fa cup in the same season?

It is for some of these killjoys

And presumably if by winning the FA we were doomed to relegation, it would be remembered - crazy gang style - for being a huge victory for the underdogs. Oh but no, let's stay up this season instead ha ha ha ha

Ah. Got it. Brain's still fuzzy from too much whiskey last night. It's all there was to hand - I wasn't expecting a reason to celebrate!

Easy question.

Even in '88 winning the Simod cup and going down was >>>> not winning the Simod cup and staying up.
