This looks like the best route, the station is a few minutes from the roundabout

I’d argue that deserves a thread of its own.

Exactly this - need stories of peoples journeys, the best cut throughs, waiting times getting back etc etc - plenty of life in this yet.

Probably wont be able to use it on matchdays anyway as all the train drivers will be on strike!

The route is quite straightorward, walk to the first roundabout then there`s a walkway straight through to Brook drive and the stadium carpark. about 15 minutes.

Yep - need to have the stories of how many people turned up for a train post-match and were outraged that they didn't get on it because it was just a normal scheduled service with no extra capacity.

I'm hoping for a touch of shambles thrown in, some "trains were leaving half empty but they wouldn't let any more people onto the platforms" kind of outrage.

In scenes reminiscent of the sinking of the Titanic, first class women and children were prioritised to half fill carriages, with everyone else being left to desperately freeze in the cold (for another 25 minutes).

The story of modern Britain: 16 years and god knows how many unnecessary millions to build something that could have been done in 4 weeks if people put their minds to it.

It make RFC's transfer policy look efficient.

Took the opportunity tonight to try out Reading Green Park on matchday from Reading West and that was easy enough post game. Around 60-70 going back into Reading West/Reading, large proportion of which were away fans and I’d estimate 20 or so waiting on the other platform for the Basingstoke train. All barriers were open post game although the Tesco next door shuts at 10.

Thanks for the info. Given they’ve raised the cost of the bus, the £2.30 return from Wokingham does look quite appealing for Saturdays.

How many carriages was the train? How many more fans before capacity is an issue?

Think it was a 2 carriager. Surprisingly large numbers of fans exited through Green Park and I did think it might get tight on the train, but quite a few of those looked to have parked in the construction site car park just before the station. In the end, there was plenty of room on the train.

Bought a return ticket in the morning, but annoyingly the 7.25 from Reading got cancelled, so ended up getting the F1 bus shuttle there. Despite 10 minutes stoppage time, it was still a bit of a wait for the 10.32. If you can get off at Reading West, then it's probably quicker than the bus. If you've going all the way to Reading, then assuming the traffic isn't too busy, which on last night's attendance it certainly wasn't, then the bus is quicker.

Worth mentioning the greenwave 50 bus (between central Reading and Green Park) stops at 300 Longwater Avenue - which is about a five minute walk from the station (less than half a mile). That stop is serviced once every 15-20 minutes between 05:46 and 19:37 and once every 30-35 minutes between 20:00 and 23:46.
