Those home socks are a mess, but at least white shorts at last.

Socks aren't great and I hope the quality control improves for the actual kit, the blue band doesn't line up properly on the back of the one in the web store.
I know having a pointless stupid pattern is the current trend but the home shirt would look nicer without the patterned shoulders.
Away shirt is ok but if you're doing two shades of red either quarters or halves would look nicer. Away socks really don't need that blue and white on them either.

Reckon I must be the only person that likes the socks, although I'd have been happier with another blue hoop

I guess I'm just bemused at how you can fail to have a simple blue and white hooped sock year after year.

Think the socks look good and go well with the kit overall tbh.

Front of the home kit looks great. In danger of being virtually all whit back though, which would be a deal breaker for me.

Agree with genome on the away, think it looks ugly.

Wasn't sure about last season's home shirt or indeed Macron gear, but it grew on me.
Like both shirts, home and away. Away is a bit unusual I like it.

Hoops > Stripes.

QPR are rightly having a field day.

The socks tie in nice with the collar/sleeves.

Home shirt is Horrendous! Might as well have Harry Hill modelling it with that stupid collar

Away shirt much better

Hendo Not too much difference from last year, and seen this template for a few clubs.

Wtf is with those random stripes? Are they meant to confuse the opposition or something?

Sutekh Last time Reading had a red away shirt was 2011/2012 and I believe promotion was achieved.

To help back this up, once again the home kit has a collar and Reading have the best chance to go up when the home shirt has a collar.

And last promotion, Reading also had white shorts so nice to see the club giving it all they can from the off

As to the designs, home shirt looks good and the away shirt isn’t bad but let down by the unnecessary “trying to be clever” on the left hand side. Would have been so much better just to have simple two shaded red halves.

Goalkeepers kit let down again by a pointless “etch-a-sketch” doodle on the front.

Almost as if the club did some research in to what fans wanted!

They’ve tried to add a bit of personalisation to the away shirt, Macron don’t do plain it seems. I think toned stripes draw some inspiration from the badge mate.

Great kits. I like how they again have the subtle crown branding on the back of the collar too.

Home looks very smart and retro. Look forward to seeing what Macron can do with the 150th anniversary kits next year; and the 25yrs at Madejski after that.

Home shirt is well nice. Away is just average.

In relation to football kits I've always thought of it as

Hoops = horizontal
Stripes = vertical

Though I guess you could argue a hoop has to go all the way round, so maybe the ones broken by side panels are bands...

What a fascinating and highly important topic.

Old Man Andrews Reading FC not releasing their new kit designs one week before the start of a season? What on earth is going on?

Don't worry about it. They'll compensate by ensuring they're not available to buy until at least six weeks after the season has commenced!

Previous years has seen kit announced about 1 month before the start of a season with the usual blurb that it won’t be available to purchase until the opening day of the season though if you pre-order you’ll get it a day or two before the season starts.

I’m going to pre-order I think.
