My guess will be 16,000 for the first game against Millwall.

*People are on holiday this time of year.

12000 season ticket holders 2000 away fans, i reckon 16000 is probably spot on

Is that all Millwall are bringing? I assumed we'd offer the whole South Stand, and being the first game of the season hoped they might bring along at least 2500.

I fancy 17,200

I fink they have an away members scheme which seriously limits their travelling numbers.

Don't forget that if Millwall had committed to the whole of the South Stand they'd not have had it on sale or return, so unless they were confident of definitely selling all 4,000 tickets why would they take the risk?

Last three seasons 19k, 19k, 16k.

16k sounds about right.

But for tax purposes they count ST's regardless of whether they turn up or not so my estimate would be 17500.

So we could have 5000 turn up and they'll still read out 12,000? :|

Yep. It's not "attendance" - it's tickets sold.

Ah OK.

Just they seem to use the wrong wording when they announce an attendance over the tannoy. They never say "and the tickets sold for today are... It's always "attendance".

The Royals' thrilling 2-2 draw with Millwall this Saturday was watched by an impressive crowd of 18,531, well eclipsing our opening day attendance of last season.

15,914 supporters watched that our clash with Scunthorpe on the first day of last season, meaning an increase of 2,617 for the visit of Kenny Jackett's Lions.

What's more, 2,597 more fans packed into Madejski Stadium than watched our home clash with Millwall last season, that 2-1 win coming on a Tuesday evening in February.

To put the attendance in some perspective, in the 2010/11 season we didn't enjoy a larger home gate until November 27th when Leeds United came to town - with clashes with Swansea, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest all watched by less than the 18,500 who showed their support this weekend.

A terrific atmosphere was helped by 2,235 visiting Lions fans, confirming our status as the most popular destination for travelling fans; last season we boasted the highest average number of visiting fans of any club in the entire Football League.

There are plenty of other stats to consider - but in truth the entertainment on show at Madejski Stadium this weekend probably spoke for itself!
