Pre season tour

by George_ » 21 Apr 2016 10:16

According to Charles Watts there are plans for a pre season tour to Slovenia this summer.

(Brian obviously likes the place)

If so I hope they play 3 games; in (or close to) Ljubljana, Bled and Piran - any excuse to visit those places is always welcome.

Back to bargain basement budgets, bargain basement pre-seasons, and bargain basement managers.

Yep, would much rather we splashed out £2m on another glamorous trip to Thailand. Would be an excellent use of limited resources.

I think you will find that we didnt actually splash out anything on a glamorous trip to Thailand, it was all cleverly disguised as a PR exercise to promote the club in the owners homeland.

That said I take your point, I was more referring to getting used to shopping for bargain basement players, personally I couldnt give a toss where we have a pre-season tour, Thailand or Tadley

It wasn't a serious figure..

I was just making the point that of all the things we need to spend money on this summer, an expensive pre-season tour comes fairly low down on the list

I completely agree with your point, however, it might have been a bargain basement trip to Thailand if the shirt sponsor did the flights and the hotel was partly owned by one of the owners.

Well indeed, the commercial opportunities such a tour presents must outway the expense.

just shows that there is no money to splash around at present, even though the club received £10,535,162.00 in parachute payments last season (see Reading Chronicle report 26/7/16)

Shame. I guess the decision will be proved right or wrong when we win/lose our first 6 games. You can already hear the excuse that it takes time to bed new players in.......
