Seen hardly any objection to this on social media, think most can see it is sensible. As has been mentioned, it will always be known as the Madejski Stadium to us.

SCIAG Naming a stand after Madejski seems almost insulting. It would be fine if it wasn't supposed to replace the stadium, but otherwise it's a bit like taking away his knighthood and giving him a CBE to make up for it. And surely the West Stand makes more sense than the East?

Think I fall in with FDTW - established names tend to outlast new sponsorship agreements, with the possible exception of Man City who had a terrible name beforehand anyway. Derby's deal lapsed in 2016 and Birmingham have kept "St Andrews" in the name.

I other thing to consider is that potentially, the naming rights could be up for grabs every 3-5 years. Rather there was some continuity by keeping "Madejski" as part of the name.

The Librarian Loserdome would probably be the most appropriate name after the last few seasons.

This.

It will always be the Madejski either because that's what it's always been or because naming rights might not last forever.
All those harking back to Elm Park (I miss it too) being the be all and end all wilfully neglect to mention we only started playing there in 1896.
I can't remember any of my family tut tutting about moving to EP from wherever we played before that (anyone know?)

If the stadium is still called Madejski in 100 years then it will be as important to those fans' history then as Elm Park was to all of us up until 1998.

We probably wont. We know it's a record sponsorship deal, and that'll be why.

I still call shop in the Butts (or not, as I can't stand the place, but it's still The Butts).

I for one was livid when we moved from Caversham CG to EP. It just wasn't the same

Generational thing I guess, still Shire Hall to those of a certain age, Foster Wheelers was always the brown tower block opposite the station.
Who cares? The Mad Stad (sic) will always be the Mad Stad (sic) not some corporate business name  that changes every few years.

It will always be the Madejski. Although it is a relatively new stadium like ours I don’t know of any Southampton fans who call St Mary’s the Vagisil Arena.

Probably because for me it changed to FW after I moved away so only returning for football

As some have said I don’t care what it’s called if it brings in some dosh, I’d rather it not have a daft name but we will call it what we all would anyway
