Warm hub?

by Winston Biscuit » 10 Jan 2023 10:22

I have seen a number of football clubs around Britain offering a variety of services through the winter to help support the public around the cost of living crisis. These seem to mostly be in areas like offering hot meals or acting as a 'warm bank' during the daytime for those struggling with energy costs.

Just wondered if RFC were doing anything like this? I looked on the main website and didn't see anything but could easily have missed a communication on it.

(apols if this has been covered elsewhere already)

Nice idea, but most warm hubs are in the middle of towns or cities near to people, not stuck out on the edge of town where people would have to trek out in the cold to reach them.

yeah that was something I was pondering this morning, which is a genuine reason why the stadium may not make the best place. OAP's with bus passes could still get down there and make use though maybe

LOL, the select car leasing stadium would make a terrible warm hub.

Miles away and not actually warm.

What about Hogwood?

Hogwood is now a housing estate is isn’t it ?
Before that it was just a few portacabins and grass.

Sadly it's no longer just the homeless that are struggling to stay warm during the winter and I don't believe warm hubs are exclusively aimed at people living on the streets in towns and cities. There is plenty of housing within walking distance of the stadium. It doesn't look the most affluent area either. Could well be as many people living there in homes that they can't afford to heat as in the town itself. They might well be prepared to make the trek to a suitable hub.

It's really not practical though. Those people that most need a warm hub (elderly and disabled) are going to be the ones that find it hardest to get to the stadium. Anyone who is driving is probably spending more money on petrol than it would cost to just sit next to an electric radiator for a couple of hours.
