Blast from the past here. Remember the day when people used to seriously argue vehemently in favour of increasing the capacity of the stadium

Cardiff City stadium is us in a sliding doors moment of what might have happened. They gambled on being able to stay in the premier long term and built before doing so. Some would say showing ambition and putting their money where their mouth is, others would say ill judged with the benefit of hindsight.

They now have a shiny new unused upper tier , we would have had the same. Still don't think it would be a bad idea to increase capacity to 30,000 if we could ever manage to have an extended top flight stay, that would be about the right level.

Some serious beef on this thread in years gone by

My opinion hasn't changed from day one in 2006, and has, I think, been vindic8ed, it would be an expensive folly

Cardiff was always due to get expanded because they were due to host the UEFA Super Cup final last season.

Maybe a better example would be Brighton who have delivered an impressive 30,000+ capacity stadium ready for the Premier League and one of the best training grounds in the country.

Wales play there though - so some internationals might warrant the extra capacity.

Some? The majority aren't sell-outs, and the big big games are at the national stadium.

I hear what you are saying about the timing of the expansion for UEFA super cup final but imagine that one off occasion wouldn't have been the main driver for increasing the capacity. That would have been Cardiff remaining in the premier league surely.

They might get promoted again and it will come in use.

Sunderland's move and expansion of the SOL raised many eyebrows, even their own fans choked at the thought of it, yet they filled it. It works for some and obviously not for others. For us we would be sat in a half empty stadium now, but so what? It would be full in the Premier League and that's what you want when that time comes.

The presence of a train station is key the transportation plan so I imagine this does put a dent in the plans.

That said, you could delay the housing portion and move the car park back there for the foreseeable.

Wales haven't played at the Millennium Stadium for years. One reason Cardiff built the extra tier was as a vanity project for the UEFA super cup.

Shirley they'll have to vastly improve the transport links and amenities around the Eurocake Spacker Arena before even thinking about expanding it?
