The whole thing's daft, I don't know why

by floyd__streete » 06 Jan 2009 11:49

As we all know, the prime function of the tannoy (sorry, public address system – tannoy is a brand name) at a football has always been to lead the crowd in spontaneous, orchestrated singing/chanting and to that end, one of the most important roles of the PA is to play the traditional post-goal music as the cue for the ensemble to celebrate with raucous clapping and fist-bobbing.

At FC Reading of Ding of course we have that inspiring tune Tom Hark, but like hoops on a shirt it has become old hat and I propose the following as alternatives for a short blast on the PA after the home team bulge the MadStad bag of onions:

1) We Dream The Same Dream – Belinda Carlisle.
2) The theme tune from popular sit-com classic so beloved by Reading fans, The Good Life.
3) Happiness – Ken Dodd. (I believe this has been suggested before?)
4) Mr Blue Sky – ELO. (Come back ELO! Come back and play some more)
5) The Birdie Song.

Come on RFC, freshen things up! We want something fresh and hip so as we can get down on our funky selves. We want more ragga, more boggle, more death metal. Bring it on!
Back the fans and make some plans!

You're far too early for April fools posts.

The Tom Hark debate has been done to death on here and they still bloody play it, so I've given up now and just sit rooted to my seat after a goal is scored.

Good idea for a debate - after all, everyone comes to the MadStad to listen to the music, don't they?

The music played before kick off at the Mad Stad is sh*t.

We should look at what other clubs do and introduce some of their ideas for example the Ipswich Town music palyed before kick off this season was superb!!

No need to apologise. Just like hoover, tannoy has been long accepted into common English usage and can be found in the dictionary as both a noun and verb (IIRC).

I just hate it when the announcer says we will get another 3 points today,at which point we inevitably don't. Just shut the oxf*rd up.

Personally I'm all for 'Love and Understanding' by Cher or if Hunt scores what about 'Gypsies, tramps and thieves'?

Or how about Live it Up by Mental as Anything?

Ken Dodd yep or Atmosphere by Russ Abbott?

Personally a change would be nice, none would be great but if they must have music then literally change the record!!!
