Went out, only thoughts were that Berkley and Townsend made great sub appearances, Rooney and (on this occasion) Hart looked undroppable and we missed a natural finisher in Welbeck (for England anyway!)

Under 21's squad is just being announced.

Kane is in, Shaw and Barkley out. I think that's about the right call at the moment, although it would've been interesting to see them in the side I'm not sure messing with the squad is right and, those two missing out have been away with the first team last summer and should be involved next year too.

Southgate also added that he'd have taken Shaw with them, as he's been part of the squad, but wasn't going to be included due to fitness issues.

Loftus-Cheek will, I think, be joining up with the u21s for the first time.

Bettinelli. Just assumed he was Italian. He has been utterly brilliant for Fulham this season. Kind of hope that has generally flown under the radar as I'd hate to see him sit on a Premier League bench next season.

Winston Smith Forster-Caskey??

He's been quite an integral part of the under 21s for some time now.

That squad of 27 will be cut down to 23 before the tournament.

Nice to see they're not keeping the likes of Kane from participating by naming him for the pointless full England internationals at the start of June. Trust that's something they've learned from screwing the U21s over the last time they were at a finals.

Alex Pritchard is a superb player. That's all.

I think the only two to miss the last Championships because of the squad for the Brazil friendlies were Oxlade-Chamberlain and Rodwell.

All the talk about not taking your best players was just Pearce making excuses for failing to do better with the players he had. I don't think the Ox would've been in the squad anyway as he was already an established senior team player, and probably the same came be said of Rodwell.

From the Conference to the England squad in three years. Well played Jamie Vardy.

Austin in, less surprisingly.

Does highlight our lack of striking options that mean that with Sturridge and Kane (all of two caps) injured, we are calling on two debutants.

Austin from even lower down than Vardy (Hungerford, Poole Town) in 4 (?) years.
Glad we got rid of him and persevered with Church and Robson-Kanu.

Vardy is a bit of a odd selection, but I wouldn't say we have a lack of striking options, it's just Hodgson is casting the net a bit wider to have a look at other options and a couple are injured.

Rooney
Sturridge
Welbeck
Kane (20 Premier League goals this season)
Austin (17)
Berahino (14)
Ings (10)
Carroll

Not to mention those wingers who can play a bit upfront like Walcott, Sterling and Townsend.

I'd say that's a decent crop of forwards. None of them are Messi or Suarez of course, and we really could do with one of the youngsters really kicking on over the next year or two, but there are players there that can cause international defenders problems.

Why do the paddies seem to dislike Sterling so much?*

Also, if only Reading could put balls into the box like this Irish team are today

Most paddies are Liverpool fans, or at least the vast majority I met when I lived over there were, and as we all know Liverpool fans are essentially retards. They'll boo anyone that has the audacity to think they can actually win trophies if they leave Liverpool, the Suarez shirt burning is another example of this....

Too much going through the motions football. Wilshere, Townsend and Vardy seemed the only ones with any real intent going forward.
