melonhead
MmmMonsterMunch They missed Cole badly too. Really don't get why everyone raves about Baines.

baines and johnson are both suited to the flying wing back role not defensive full backs.

but could only play that system if we had three decent CBs
which we dont

ive no doubt that cole a d terry in that side would have won one of those two games.

John Terry was made an enemy of the state by a press in a feeding frenzy. No doubt they will manage to blame him for this too.

Cole has been England's most consistent player of the last 10 years but got boo's from the England 'fans' every time he touched the ball...

And Ronaldo (Portugal), Messi (Argentina), Neymar (Brazil), Robben (Holland), Ribery (France), Pogba (France) etc etc don't make it more exciting for other leading European domestic leagues, it's only the Premier League where this is a problem for the national team is it?

jd82 Just the usual, toys out out of the pram histrionics on this thread.

Rooney was easily the best in white last night. Yes, of a pretty awful bunch.

Lol at those bemoaning the tap in. If that was Suarez at the other end everyone would have been talking about his desire to get on the end of it, and how he opened up his body and used his left to avoid the keeper.

Yeah Rooney was sharp, showed up all the haters.

England'll be back home next Wednesday having lost all 3 group games for official confirmation that this is the worst England World Cup squad in history.

He was our best player last night which just about sums it up, missed another straightforward opportunity right in front of the goal but was very unlucky with that header.

A decent game overall by his recent standards but not enough to suggest he's worth all the screwed up face anger, the sulking and the rest of the baggage that goes with his over hyped ability. I suppose the question is, would England be any better without him playing? We wouldn't have last night but not sure over the longer term.

Rooney will be almost 33 by the next WC so I reckon he has only 1 Euros's in him anyway. As I have stated before, I wouldnt be particularly surprised if he retired from international football after this WC anyway. Sounds like Gerrard is.

winchester_royal A complacent Italy won't beat a fired up Uruguay next Tuesday if they're already through by that point.

Well... It would depend what sort of goal difference they'll have up their sleeve because they'll not want to sit back, get beaten by Uruguay and risk coming second in the group.
